davaruna
I am attempting to create an image of a Liquid Mercury type font, (on the left) in Affinity Designer. I have all Affinity programs on all devices, but I am stuck (see image on the right) Any help at all would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I posted this on twitter but Affinity suggested this would get a better response.
Staff stokerg Posted January 12, 2021 Staff Share Posted January 12, 2021 Hi @davaruna, Please see the attached afdesign file, it's the closest we have been able to get to the same effect. You'll be able to click on the Fx icon by the Text Layer to see which settings have been used. Mercury.afdesign
firstdefence
Maybe something a little closer... Mercury the Dull edition.afphoto This can just as easily be done in Affinity Designer, I was just using Affinity Photo at the time. stokerg 1 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... firstdefence
This was done with the Plugin Eye Candy from Alienskin in literally 30 seconds. Added a simple outer shadow afterwards to define the letter on the white paper. stokerg and Wosven 2 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... carl123
Nearest I can get using just Affinity FXs and a Gradient (Done in APhoto but believe the same in Designer) Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. This looks like my best option however I cannot figure out how to FIND and add this plugin for Mac OS and Affinity Photo or Designer. Can you provide a link? v_kyr
That's a very difficult one, in order to get it generally equally setup as in PS, you would need another filled shape (not text) as a template which then can be overall better reused ... firstdefence
the way a lot of these chrome effects are made is to apply lighting and use a HDRi image as a reflective environment, this is how you get the light texture and the complex shimmer. davaruna
Thanks to everyone for their help. In the end I was able to get the job done with a Trial Photoshop account but the results are worth it. It would be great if there was a tutorial for this kind of work in Affinity because I just love working with Affinity products. I am also happy to take criticism of this result. Again, thanks. firstdefence
