nicanorrr
Hi! I just bought Affinity Photo and so far it's been great! I came from Photoshop and one thing i regularly do is to select my entire file then Copy Merged and paste it either into FB Messenger or into a Facebook Post. I do this either just to make quick memes (for FB posts) or so that I can quickly discuss changes to a design with my team (through FB Messenger). I noticed that when I tried to do this using Affinity Photo, my original post got scaled down after I posted it. For example, I have a meme at 1000px x 1193px. When I pasted it into FB Messenger, the resulting file was 240px x 287px. I experimented a bit and found that it is scaled down because my file was at 300dpi. When I set it to 72dpi (without resampling so it had the same pixel dimensions), copy/pasting to Facebook Messenger had no problems and resulted in a 1000px x 1193px image. In photoshop, it didn't matter what DPI the file was when I copy merged/pasted it into FB or FB Messenger. The image would always be pasted in the original pixel dimensions. Is this a bug that can be fixed or am I doing something wrong? I don't want to have to set my image to 72dpi (without resampling) everytime I send an update to my team via FB Messenger since that would defeat the purpose of being able to send updates quickly. Thank you! Edited November 28, 2020 by nicanorrr
All Media Lab
Hi @nicanorrr. On screen only pixels count! DPI or PPI is for print and does nothing on screen. 1000px X 1000px will be 1000px X 1000px no matter if it's 72dpi or 3000dpi. Regards, David Hi David, Thanks for your response Yes that should be the case but unfortunately when I select all in affinity photo then copy-paste it to facebook messenger, the DPI matters. Here's an example: Original Image: 480px x 480px I copy pasted this at 72dpi into facebook messenger then downloaded the result which was this: I then changed it to 300dpi in Affiinity Photo without resampling it so that it would still be 480px x 480px. I then copy pasted that into facebook messenger and downloaded the result which was this which is 116px x 116px: As you can see here in the image settings, the original file is still 480x480 px and the only difference was I changed the dpi to 300. Hope that clarifies the issue I'm having and if there is something wrong in my workflow. Can somebody try to recreate it and see if it's only me? John Rostron
It looks very much like a foible of Facebook/Messanger rather than Affinity All I can suggest is that you set up your default File > New properties to have 72 dpi. nicanorrr
Hi so I wanted to see if it is more a problem importing it into FB Messenger but I got the same results when copy-pasting into Photoshop: When the dpi of my file in Affinity Photo was 72, the pasted image into Photoshop was correct as can be seen below: (Don't mind yet the smaller image since this is actually the pasted image when dpi was 300) When I set it to 300 without resampling and copy pasted it into Photoshop, it became like this: Might be worth mentioning that I am using "Copy Merged" when I copy-paste since I'm selecting all then getting the entire image. In Photoshop, the DPI doesn't matter when I do this and paste it into different outside applications. Thanks

In AP, do the Edit > Copy Merged followed by File > New From Clipboard and then tell us about the size of the new Affinity document, please. Old Bruce
This has to do with the Original document and its 'units' of measurement being inches or cm or whatever instead of Pixels. The clipboard is doing a calculation of 300 dpi at 2 inches = 6oo pixels. Or 72 dpi at 2 inches = 144 pixels. Work in documents where the unit of measurement is Pixels and all should be good. Hi! If I do what ask you ask, it is correct even with different dpi as long as I do it within Affinity Photo. The result is 480x480px. However, when I paste it outside in Photoshop, the result is a 115x115px. 1 hour ago, Old Bruce said: This has to do with the Original document and its 'units' of measurement being inches or cm or whatever instead of Pixels. I've been working with Pixels as the unit of measurement with everything I've described so far. I just double checked and the problems are still there even with Pixels set. Did I post this thread in the right forum? I'm starting to think it might be better off as either a bug report or as a feature request. Thanks to everyone trying to help me out lepr
