iMac1943
As you see there is a lot of dust on the roof. I tried the inpainting brush tool, but the result is not good enough. Can somebody help? Thanks a lot! Luc
iMac1943
anyone?
Staff MattP Posted August 20, 2015 Staff Share Posted August 20, 2015 Is this the full size original? If not, you really need to supply the original so people can help you - otherwise they will have no idea what the tools act like with your image. If this is the actual image itself then I'd give the healing brush a go?
iMac1943
No, it's not the full size original, it's 20,8 MB, just a bit to big. I'll decrease the photo.

A_B_C
Hi iMac1943, see my screen shot below … but what exactly do you want to have cleaned on your photo? Cheers, Alex
iMac1943
I want to clean up the dust on the roof caused by the chimney.
iMac1943
no reply?
A_B_C
I would perhaps do the following: Create a new pixel layer. Choose the Clone Tool, make sure your new pixel layer is activated, select Current layer and below from the context toolbar, select your source by Opt + Click and copy the roof texture from a clean part of the roof to the dusted spots. Now you have a patch on the new layer that will hide the dusted spot. Erase as necessary and use adjustment layers for making your patch blend in. Done. Please have a look at my rather quickly done image below … would that work for you? :) MattP
iMac1943
That is perfect!!! I'll follow your instructions. Now the lower part of the roof... Thank you a lot!
iMac1943
The result is good, but (at the right) I don't have what you have, I mean the patch. What did I do wrong?
A_B_C
The idea is to put the clone on a separate layer, by using the layer beneath as the cloning source. I believe you did not paint on the newly created (empty) pixel layer, but on the background layer instead. Wait, here’s a great tutorial showing you the technique I suggested … This should answer your questions … :) Leigh
iMac1943
Indeed, I did it wrong. The tutorial is what I needed. Thank you for all your help! Luc
iMac1943
Tutorial is not with the cloon tool but with the inpainting brush tool. Maybe there are several ways to get the result.
evtonic3
Copy paste new layer from the next part of the roof to the right it seems to match up okay.
A_B_C
Copy paste new layer from the next part of the roof to the right it seems to match up okay. Yes, that would perhaps be easier in the present case … ;) Tutorial is not with the cloon tool but with the inpainting brush tool. Maybe there are several ways to get the result. Don’t give up too early … from 1:21 on you will see the technique applied to cloning … ;)
