How do I make an Outline Box On my text

Recommended Posts

How do I get my text to have something around it like this? It's like an Outline box and I feel like its a pretty easy thing to add/make so I assume a feature Like this is already in Affinity Photo as well, its a very basic thing.

Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions! Very helpful!

Take your pick… the bottom two examples are simple enough.

The top one is also simple:

  1. Create text, add a rectangle
  2. Place text above rectangle
  3. Select both rectangle and text layer
  4. Use the menu option… Layer > Geometry > Subtract

Just add a red rectangle under your text

Group them if you then want to move them together as a group

In addition to the methods above, I think it’s worth mentioning that in Publisher you can use Paragraph Decorations to put the text in a box which expands or contracts when the text changes.
See my attached video for an example – note the settings for the Fill Decoration.
(I realise that the OP asked about Photo but I still think it’s worth adding this all the same, just in case it’s useful to someone else.)
