aggir
When you compare the jpeg coming out my Lumix G9 and the same photo , RAW version developped by Photo Persona, you can see a big loss in details (RAW developped is the darker one, Jpeg is the lighter). It is a non sense because the original size of the RAW was 3X the Jpeg size. Does anybody has an explanation?
lepr
If you attach the raw file, we'll be in a better position to look at what is happening. Something to consider, though, is that Affinity's Develop applies no sharpening by default (see Details controls) and it appears that your Affinity developed image has had no tone curve applied. Both sharpening and toning has been done in the production of the camera's JPEG.
aggir
Thank you for your answer I applied a clarity % of 65% and did not touch the other values, not to blur the result, so, obviously the colour and exposition are to be corrected.. Attached the original raw file. P1096965.RW2

aggir
Whatever the settings in Develop persona or Photo persona, the result is blurrier than the Jpeg coming out from the camera. This is my concern. We are supposed to use RAW to get better results than Jpeg, not worse.

So try the Details tab that I mentioned. Or sharpen the image in Photo persona after exiting Develop persona.
aggir
Here under the RAW file with 100% on the Detail tab of Develop persona + 100% on clarity tab in Photo persona . Cannot do more. The blur is much more important after develop persona. It is crazy to use RAW to have a better image, to use a sharp lens and have a worse result at the end. I just spent two weeks tinkering, because a bug was affecting the last release of Develop persona, with a very slow answer of the technical service. This new problem is really concerning about the quality of Affinity staff.
lepr
You've completely overcooked the clarity and sharpening. Try a little subtlety.
John Rostron
Raw does not, in itself, give you better image, it gives you the potential to give you a better image. Many Photo editors apply default actions (such as sharpening) to a raw file. Affinity does not. It is up to you to apply such sharpening as you want when processing the raw file. As @IanSG and @anon2 suggested, many users prefer to do their sharpening in the Photo persona. Fixx
I tried to develop the file in AP: Not sure if it is much better... but I do think it is about sharp enough.
