Can you explain why boolean operations are limited by the number of shapes? For example I have a complex logo and want to add all the shapes together to make a silhouette but the program simply does nothing?

I haven't seen this in any other vector based software that I've used before.

I don’t think the Boolean operations are limited by the number of shapes.

If nothing happens when you use them it’s normally because of a different issue, sometimes the Fill Mode is ‘wrong’ for some of the shapes, sometimes it’s because the shapes are not (all) closed curves, or various other things.

If you can share the document we can experiment and see what’s happening.

How am I messing up this intersect boolean?

No matter which order I try, the image is blank. These screenshots are a test.

I simply want to use an circle to create a"beer coster" from the image file. Doing booleans to cut a circle out of the center is easy but I cant work how to do the inverse.

Thanks

Brett

Boolean operations can only be applied to closed curves. You must convert the image into curves and then you can also subtract the ellipse from the image (curve) layer.

Thank you Komatös!

That makes complete sense spoken aloud. But is non obvious if you use these products once or twice a month.

To serif, unless there is a good reason not to a simple warning when breathing a boolean with a curved layer would avoid this confusion.

You do not need to convert the image into a curve for what you expect as a solution. You can do this non-destructively by dragging the image layer onto the vector layer.

Wow thanks again for the help. The screen recording helped me understand that shortcut.

Off to print with my silly Halloween design.

I normally use designer for more technical work, CAD lite. The basics I missed surprised me. Great community help.
