Luis Henrique Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Hi. I downloaded and installed Affinity Photo Version 1.8.3, but when trying to load the program it just closes before it finishes loading. It gives no error message, just closes. I deleted, downloaded and installed it again but the problem persists. I use Windows 10, 64b with 8Gb RAM. Quote

Luis Henrique Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 I don't have any of the Third Party apps listed and the app is still crashing. There's no crash report too or error messagem. The program just close on loading... Quote
Staff Chris B Posted April 9, 2020 Staff Posted April 9, 2020 Hey Luis Henrique, Can you confirm what install path you have used? Also make sure you have no pending Windows updates. Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
voom Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Yesterday all the Apps (1.8.3) still worked, today all 3 don't start: the start window appears, after that the cursor keeps rotating forever and nothing happens. I have none of the other Apps mentioned in the other forum post and all updates are up to date. I tried to reinstall all 3 with the option "Repair" and it did not help. I would try a downgrade to 1.8.2 but have not files for previous versions. Quote
Staff Chris B Posted April 9, 2020 Staff Posted April 9, 2020 Hi voom, Can you take a look at your WIndows updates list and see if any updates have installed since yesterday. If so, can you note them down and try removing them. Did you turn off the machine yesterday or leave it on overnight? voom Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 The last update was on 2020-03-13 (Win 10 v1909 KB4551762) I turned the machine off yesterday Meanwhile since the last post I also tried to uninstall all 3 and reinstall - still the same... The only app I installed (reluctently because a client used it) yesterday was "Mobirise", I uninstalled it before uninstalling and reinstalling the Affinity apps Edit: I found the older version downloads and will try a downgrade to 1.8.2 next Quote

Luis Henrique Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 (edited) No WIndows updates yesterday. I always turn the machine off at the end of the day and turn it on again in the morning. Edited April 9, 2020 by Luis Henrique Quote

voom Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 It seems it was a DisplayFusion Update that made the difference... I checked what changed since yesterday and that was the only thing that installed this morning. So for me it works now... Chris B 1 Quote
Luis Henrique Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 Affinitty Photo is a very problematic program ... Everything else on my machine works correctly, only the one that doesn't. I think about asking for my money back ... Quote
voom Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 This is the very first time I had this kind of problem... And the app that created the problem was DF in a beta version. I went back to the last official version of DF now. Had been using the recent betas of DF without trouble until today though... As you can see, it helps to check thoroughly what changed in your system before it stopped working... Quote

Staff Chris B Posted April 9, 2020 Staff Posted April 9, 2020 Can you give me the location where you are trying to install the app to please? Such as: C:\Program Files\Affinity Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
3darkman Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Although I really like the Affinity application suite, this problem occurs with all of their applications (Publisher, Design e Photo) on all of my machines, since the beta, and has never been resolved. Today I finally discovered a simple workaround that solves the problem on demand. This problem only occurs if you open the application without any documents. if you open a document, be it an image to be edited in it, an .afphoto file through windows explorer (or through the start menu), the program will be able to open without closing. Staff Chris B Posted April 14, 2020 Staff Posted April 14, 2020 Hey 3darkman, Are you saying the only way you can open the app is by opening an image/existing document? Same issue here:https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/112954-183-always-crashes-when-creating-new-files/&tab=comments#comment-612172 Although reported fixed after opening an image—new documents could then be opened.
