Affinity Photo doesn"t load

Recommended Posts

Hi. I downloaded and installed Affinity Photo Version 1.8.3, but when trying to load the program it just closes before it finishes loading. It gives no error message, just closes. I deleted, downloaded and installed it again but the problem persists. I use Windows 10, 64b with 8Gb RAM.

Possibly this FAQ entry will help:

Yesterday all the Apps (1.8.3) still worked, today all 3 don't start: the start window appears, after that the cursor keeps rotating forever and nothing happens. I have none of the other Apps mentioned in the other forum post and all updates are up to date. I tried to reinstall all 3 with the option "Repair" and it did not help. I would try a downgrade to 1.8.2 but have not files for previous versions.

The last update was on 2020-03-13 (Win 10 v1909 KB4551762)

I turned the machine off yesterday

Meanwhile since the last post I also tried to uninstall all 3 and reinstall - still the same...

The only app I installed (reluctently because a client used it) yesterday was "Mobirise", I uninstalled it before uninstalling and reinstalling the Affinity apps

Edit: I found the older version downloads and will try a downgrade to 1.8.2 next

This is the very first time I had this kind of problem... And the app that created the problem was DF in a beta version. I went back to the last official version of DF now. Had been using the recent betas of DF without trouble until today though...

As you can see, it helps to check thoroughly what changed in your system before it stopped working...

Although I really like the Affinity application suite, this problem occurs with all of their applications (Publisher, Design e Photo) on all of my machines, since the beta, and has never been resolved.

Today I finally discovered a simple workaround that solves the problem on demand.

This problem only occurs if you open the application without any documents.

if you open a document, be it an image to be edited in it, an .afphoto file through windows explorer (or through the start menu), the program will be able to open without closing.

Hey 3darkman,

Are you saying the only way you can open the app is by opening an image/existing document?

Same issue here:
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/112954-183-always-crashes-when-creating-new-files/&tab=comments#comment-612172

Although reported fixed after opening an image—new documents could then be opened.
