Hello,

Last WE I did an upgrade from Affinity Photo 1.8.2 to 1.8.3. In the new version it is impossible for me to save my work. I am working with a mask layer. When I use the Save As... command and I click the Replace button in the Pop-up screen, the program shuts down. When I click on the Affinity Photo icon the program opens again and there is a Pop-up window for Apple, who is saying that the program has stopped, together with a report. There is also a button (Open Again) that can be clicked. When you do so, you will have the previous work, so everything you have done is lost. When I use the Save command, it looks like normal., but when I open the file later, nothing is saved.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @jeanledent56.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. I use Windows, so I'm not going to be much help, but I have one comment/suggestion: If you're using Save As and you get a popup to Replace, that means you're trying to save over and existing file. Have you tried specifying a different file name?

Hey jeanledent56,

This is working for me. Are you able to test this on a new document?

All I did was:

  1. New doc
  2. File > Save As > named it 'test'
  3. Close document
  4. File > New doc
  5. File > Save As
  6. Selected the existing document called 'test'
  7. UI updated to call this new project 'test'
  8. Save > Replace
  9. Project was successfully overwritten—no crash.

Could I also ask you to attach the crash report?

hey walt,

Thanks for your suggestion, but the idea is to overwrite the existing file and to actualise it. Before, with the former version I could do it without any problem.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for your reaction. I have done what you have asked me and this is OK. But the problem is different. When I open a file , which was saved before, I do some work in it and I want to save it with the command Save As under the same name with the command Replace, the program stops suddenly. When I open the program again, I see the same file with the new work in it and meanwhile there is the message if I want to open the program again and the report for Apple ( see attachment ).

Best Regards, Jean

Hi jeanledent56,
Is this happening with other documents too or its just with a specific one? If so, can you attach the problematic file here (we can provide an upload link if you wish to keep the file private - just let us know) and tell us what operations you are doing to see if we can replicate the issue here?

Have you bought Affinity Photo from the Mac App Store or Affinity Store?

Hi,

It is happening also with other documents, when I follow the procedure as described in my former mail. From the moment that I try to save with the Save As command a document with changes under the same name (Replace) it happens.

I bought my Affinity Photo from the Affinity Store. It was version 1.7.3 and my Order N° BNB4HG9DRP ( Purchase date = 01/10/2019) The problem occurred when I upgraded from 1.8.2 to 1.8.3.

Best Regards,

Jean

Thanks for confirming. I've just spent the last 30 mins trying this and replacing files on Dropbox, iCloud, local HDD and a USB stick and for the life of me I cannot get it to happen on Catalina. I'm sure this was fixed for Mojave their end...

I am 99% sure I'm doing EXACTLY what you are doing. Would you mind doing a quick recording in case I can catch something I've missed? You can use QuckTime if you don't have a preinstalled recording app.

For several months, I have been experiencing intermittent save / save as problems in Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. Currently using version Affinity Photo / Designer 1.8.3 under MacOS Catalina 10.15.4. Basically nothing happens when I hit Save As on a new document. No save dialogue pops up.

If I hit the red X to close the unsaved window, I can get a Don't Save / Cancel / Save prompt but clicking Save results in the same problem (nothing happens) as when I try Save As from the File menu.

At some point I thought some combination of MacOS and/or Affinity upgrade had solved the problem but it has come back again.
