Mac Publisher: which brush selected in Photo persona?

Recommended Posts

Can Publisher continue to show me which brush I had selected, even if I do something else, then come back to the brushes? I find that this functionality is essential so that I don't get that queasy "where did my tool disappear to?" feeling.

Thank you!

When you're in the Photo Persona it should show you as much about the brushes as the Photo application would.

But the Publisher Persona doesn't have brushes and doesn't know anything about them. So, no, it can't show you anything. If I've understood your question, of course.

The Brushes panel only highlights a brush if a selected brush tool is currently set to use one of its brush presets. If you change any property of the brush from the preset value (width, hardness, whatever) the tool is no longer set to use the preset & the highlight disappears.

There have been many requests for a different behavior, like maybe a 'last preset brush used' indicator of some sort, but so far nothing like that has been implemented.

Note that even when a brush preset is highlighted, if you switch to the Move Tool, for example, and then switch back to the same brush tool, no preset will be highlighted despite the brush tool not having had any of its controls adjusted.

Well that is good to know that many others are requesting this. Until an indicator is implemented, what are others doing to keep track of the last brush they used when they want to go back to it? At least the iPad OS version has a "recent brushes" selector in the Brush type pulldown.

Personally, I don't try to keep track of the last raster brush I used, nor do I have any reason to do so. I just focus on the effect I am trying to achieve, using whatever brush(es) I think will do that best.

Since for me that usually means switching brushes frequently & doing a lot of changes to the width, angle, etc. of the current brush as I work with it, I would have little need a 'last used preset' indicator even if there was one.
