- create a new afpub file
- insert a jpg file.
- save and close the afpub file
- change the jpg file outside affinity publisher.

yep tested and you are correct.

With all these bugs in 1.8 i am considering not to use Affinity for upcoming new projects.

I guess all will be solved but.....there must be a lessons learned with new software releases......

I am an Affinity fan!

I found a workaround.
- create a new afpub document or load a loadable afpub file (don't close it).
- load the afpub file with linked jpg what has been changed.
- afpub can now load this afpub file and displays the message "linked resource changed".
- update the linked jpg in "resource manager".
- save the afpub file. The afpub file is now ok. It can be closed and loaded again.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums :)

Sorry, you are correct. This has already been reported to the developers and we are looking to have it fixed in the next beta.

Pleased that you have found a work around

Hey guys,

is this bug related? This is the crash I'm getting:

  1. Place a PNG-file, linked
  2. Leave Affinity Publisher document open
  3. Change/update the PNG outside of Affinity Publisher
  4. Affinity Publisher tries to update linked resource, results in crash

My guess is it's related to the setting »Automatically update linked resources when modified externally«?

Greetings

Yes this is exactly the problem @MrDoodlezz, editing a linked file outside of the application is unstable at the moment
