Phil_rose Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Hi all, I downloaded the free templates from the Affinity website but when I go into Designer and click open and templates and then Add Folder it seems to think that the folder is empty and it is not seeing any of the templates. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks very much, Phil PS in the screenshot the Explorer pane showing is what I see when I click Show in Explorer so you can see that it is the correct folder. Quote I like turtles! Old Bruce Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 I don't do Windows but I have to ask if you have tried clicking on the folder named _MACOSX. Also... What file type are the files in the explorer window? Are they .afdesigner or aftemplet (not too sure of the extension at this time of day here). I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Phil_rose Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Hi, thanks for the quick reply! I have tried the Mac folder but that is empty also. They are all afdesign files. Do they have to be actual template files to show up? It's strange that they're giving away a whole folder contemplates that does not contain any templates! Quote I like turtles! h_d Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 I'm pretty sure that the ICONIC "templates" in the free download aren't in the new Template file format. They're ordinary Affinity Designer documents (name extension .afdesign) so I don't think they'll get picked up by the New from Template dialog in Designer 1.8. Template documents have the name extension .aftemplate and I don't believe any have been offered, for sale or free, in the Affinity store. In the meantime, you can open the ICONIC documents from File -> Open rather than from File -> New. Phil_rose Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Okay, that makes sense. I just opened a file that I use as a template and saved it as a template and then added the folder that it is contained within to the template dialogue and there it is. Thanks very much, I think this all makes sense now. h_d 1 Quote I like turtles! They pre-date 1.8, in fact. Any files that are truly Affinity Templates would have a .aftemplate extension.
