1.8 Cursor "teleports" across the screen when adjusting brush size

Hi,

Ever since I updated to version 1.8 of Affinity Photo, my cursor started "teleporting" to different locations on my screen when adjusting my brush size. Anyone else experiencing this? I didn't have this problem with the prior version. I've downgraded back to the old version 1.73 due to this critical bug.

PS:  I'm using a mouse.

Sure. Please see attached. Notice when the cursors was in the lower right corner (0:03) and I adjusted it's size with CTRL+RMB+LMB, it teleported to the upper left corner. Please let me know if you need anything else in terms of info or screen recordings so I can uninstall 1.8 and install the older version as soon as possible.

CTRL+RMB+LMB

The shortcut is ALT + RBM + LMB, but I still can't replicate this issue. Does it happen all the time? Can you try this?

Close Photo. Navigate to %AppData%\Affinity\Photo\ and rename 1.0 to 1.0.backup. Reopen Photo and see if it's better.

Yes, still happens after renaming this folder. 😕

Can I install Photo on another device such as my laptop to see if it happens there too? I've got only one license.

BTW, I'm having exactly the same issue with Affinity Designer 1.8 on the same PC. Cursor is "teleporting" when adjusting the size of the Vector Brush Tool.

Sure. You can install the program on any PC you own and control :) Give it a go on that and see how it goes. I'm wondering if it's something on this PC...

Nope, no luck. ☹️ Please see attached a screen recording - same issue on my 6-year old Intel based laptop which is completely different hardware and peripherals and never had any Affinity product on it before so it's not due to hardware, drivers, messed up user software setup/configuration, or due to bad mouse & keyboard.

To be honest, version 1.8 is COMPLETELY unusable for me in this state and quite possibly the worst release I've used simply because the most used feature in any photo editing program - adjusting brush size, doesn't work properly and constantly frustrates the user. I'm baffled how it got past the testing phase when there's such an obvious and glaring problem. I'd be perfectly fine if 1.8 was delayed by another week or two if that meant that it would work properly. I now have to downgrade to the old version, because I really can't endure even one more minute working with version 1.8 and its teleporting cursor.

This started happening to me to! on all devices I own after the new update, its supper annoying. I cant work like this. I change brush size all the time so I cant have it teleport on me like that every time.

I don't know what to do... I have affinity installed on 4 different PC's, all thought I mainly only use to of them, I just find it handy to have it around on all my PC's, just in case if I need it :P How ever, I have check, and I have this issue on all of them.  3 Windows Desktops and one Windows Laptop.

My monitor resolution is 1920 x 1200, the native resolution for my monitor (Eizo ColorEdge CS2420 24"). Windows scaling is left at default too - 100% (Recommended).

Please ignore the brush problem you're seeing in the video recording. I'm not sure why it looks like that in the video. In real life the brush is perfectly centered inside the brush preview. It might be something to do with the software I used to record these which is Xbox Game Bar that comes with Windows 10.

No, I don't have accessibility zoom / 3rd party apps that interfere with the resolution/dpi neither on my workstation, nor on my laptop.

BTW, I might try installing 1.8 on a yet another PC - a 6 years old workstation with Intel 4930k, 32 GB RAM, GeForce GT210 just to triple check. It has a clean Windows 7 installation on it with virtually no software other than 3ds Max and a browser. If it still has this problem, IMHO there's NO way the problem's coming from my side.

Terrific! 🙂 I hope the bug fix makes it in the upcoming update.

I've just installed the new version 1.8.2. Unfortunately, cursor still teleports when resizing the brush. ☹️ Any ETA when this is going to be fixed? Looks like I'll be moving back to 1.7.3.

Why not just release the left-click first, as Gabe mentioned?

That's nice to know, but this means I have to always intentionally focus on my order of actions/clicks which I don't have the time and nerves to do. Everything was working beautifully up until version 1.8.

Still broken in the just released 1.8.3. 😕 Isn't this a major bug that should be absolute top priority? I mean, this is a photo editing program and brushes are used probably 90% of the time. The suggestion above about releasing left click first doesn't work. This bug was introduced when brush Rotation-Width-Shape mode cycling was implemented with ALT+RMB+LMB. So I think the bug stems from there. Is there a way to disable this mode cycling? Maybe this will fix it. I would rather trade this functionality that I never use for properly working brush resizing without teleporting my cursor all over the screen.
