jbrent Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 I have a photo of a house with a tree in front of it and extending above the roof line and into the sky background. I want to replace the sky. I make a selection of the sky with the tree. When I try to refine the selection, the tree area, ie limbs, is not completely defined leaving red background on the sky area. I have tried changing settings like border & ramp but to no avail. Any suggestions on how to get a clean refinement on the tree limbs???? I have included 3 screenshots showing the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
tongcreator Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 When you encounter issues like this, this is when you brush onto areas. Notice the section in the refinement panel that says 'Adjustment Brush?" Make sure Matte is selected and paint over the areas of the tree that you would like Affinity to look at. It will re-analyze those areas and do a much better job. Quote

Improvement I hope in 1.8 release. Cecil Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 @Granddaddy I was actually referring to the OP. Many YouTube tutorials have simple backgrounds to improve Inpainting/Refine Selections. Removing the OP example is another matter that Inpainting/Refine Sections struggles to remove unwanted pixels. jbrent Posted February 2, 2020 Author Posted February 2, 2020 I also use blend ranges for sky replacements. It just bothers me that the refining tool is so inconsistent. Thanks for the tutorials. Quote

Thanks for the tutorials. Using the flood fill tool(make sure it is on Add mode) over and over is a method. Here is the result I got. Quote
