hi all,

What do you think about a Denoise-Filter that can be easily applied to certain colors only? (e.g. : only to blue pixels = sky?)

like this mock-up:

Could be faster and easier than having to use masks...
(esp. since gradients / gradient-masks are NOT editable in Photo - but should be, like in Designer - I think..)

kind regards

Found in the Legacy Tutorials is one using Channels for De-Noising. Doesn't this do the same as what you're proposing?

Affinity Photo 2.5..; Affinity Designer 2.5..; Affinity Publisher 2.5..; Affinity2 Beta versions. @Ron P.
I know that Pro-Users will just smile about my amateur-approach and continue to prefer Masks and Layers.
But similar to what @fde101wrote:  the color-wheel (like in the HSL-Adjustment) allows selection of color-ranges which may offer more flexibility, I guess.

A relatively expensive plugin but a life long companion in my workflow is Noiseware Professional. Simple and fast. I use these settings often. Fast and efficient. What I want. Is it not something like this you are asking for?

  • "The user interface is supposed to work for me - I am not supposed to work for the user interface."
  • Computer-, operating system- and software agnostic; I am a result oriented professional. Look for a fanboy somewhere else.

  • Not an Affinity user og forum user anymore. The software continued to disappoint and not deliver.

@Jowday Thanks for the info about Noiseware.
Honestly the software is too expensive for me since I am just an amateur photographer.

But the existence of this feature in another software is a fine evidence that my idea/suggestion is not so bad...

Your suggestion is excellent, no doubt - however I never really found an advanced noise reduction feature in any photo editor or raw converter. Denoise programs are actually more worth than you think, the second you get a good program and learn how to use it, you suddenly dare to use higher ISO values and to shoot under more difficult circumstances. Fx street photography at night. It is simply much more freedom. Noiseware is discounted from time to time. Still expensive though.

But I have one FREE suggestion for you :)

Nik Collection from 2012 - works with AP - if you can live with ignoring the "update available" (update is not free) prompt often:

https://nikcollection.dxo.com/nik-collection-2012/

You can use colour picker to select a colour and adjust noise reduction for that particular color - and more. I am not crazy about the workflow and results - but perhaps you are.

Merry Christmas :)

I hadn't come across Noiseware Professional before.

Another big noise reducer for photos is Neat Image, which does not appear to have this feature either, and the pro version is the same price as Noiseware Professional.

Does Noiseware Professional generally work well within Affinity Photo (as a plugin)?

Neat Image at least has a standalone version so that if the plugin support breaks in some version of Affinity Photo it could still be used separately; it doesn't look like Noiseware Professional offers that.

Featurewise I have had no issues. A few flaws though compared to using it with Adobe Photoshop:

  • Colour management - doesn't work when used from AP (but I could survive that personally)
  • In Photoshop it also works in LAB mode

Photoshop is my professional photo editor so I mainly use it there - any use cases you want me to validate?

No, mostly just curious at this point - but definitely something I may check out later on.

Thank you!
