Hello !

I'm new here, and post cause of my frustration by using the crop tool. So here is a Christmas wish-list for this tool :

  • the "esc" key on the MacBook Pro is really able to escape the crop tool
  • the Maj key apply a size constraint
  • the Alt key apply a symmetric constraint
  • the crop tool is able to stick to the pixel grid
  • and at last, the ability to choose a destructive mode, even if there is the trick of  Layer > Rasterize & Trim (cf. below).

And an other demand, out of crop tool but associated to size management : when creating a new document, having the ability to make it the same size of the image in the clipboard, to avoid to crop just after pasting…

Thank you Affinity's Santa !

Hi Derw, welcome to the forums. Have you tried file>new from clipboard

This creates a new file the size of the copied item, no cropping needed.

As an addition to the above answer by Murfee

Use Document > Clip Canvas after pasting the image if you want to initially use File > New (document) to set other parameters for the document other than its size

@carl123

Thanks, but: I'm french, so, I don't have "clip Canvas". I suppose it's the "Redimensionner le Canevas" entry… If yes, it let me change the size of the document by cutting the canvas with chosen sizes, which is not helpful when you don't know the size of the image in the clipboard…

I'm not French but I think "Redimensionner le Canevas" is probably "Resize Canvas" which is not the same

Clip Canvas is something different and something wonderful.

Try to find it in French

OK. You're right on your french translation :-)

I've found: it's "Attacher le canevas" above "Détacher le canevas" which are more likely interpreted as "Tie canvas" and "Untie canvas" and which I wasn't able to understand… A bad translation I think…

It's good functions I've discovered thanks to you.

Hello, I'm back here.

Is it possible to open a ticket for a bad translation ?

If yes, I purpose to make one for this bad French translation described just above. It's about Document/Clip Canvas and Document/Unclip Canvas which should be translated like this Document/Rogner Canevas and Document/Étendre Canevas or something approaching…
