Jim_Campbell
Just downloaded the latest beta (which makes a much better stab at interpreting objects from my .ai files, BTW — nice work) and have noticed that text doesn't seem to use the autoligs that I know are built in to my .otf fonts. Am I missing a text preference somewhere, or is this something Designer doesn't currently do? Thanks! Jim
Staff Andrew Tang Posted September 4, 2014 Staff Share Posted September 4, 2014 Have you tried: Format -> Character -> Show OpenType
Jim_Campbell
Aha. The OpenType palette doesn't show anything unless you first specify the language as English in the main Character palette, at which point the autoligs kick in. Thanks…! evtonic3
Have you tried: Format -> Character -> Show OpenType Where can I find this in Designer? I have a font that I can't access the all the stylistic alternates. Not really sure if I am looking in the right place.
Staff MEB Posted May 23, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 23, 2016 Hi evtonic3 I believe Andrew is referring to this panel: menu Text ▸ Show Typography. You can also access it from the top right menu icon on the Character panel. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
evtonic3
MEB, I looked there and I can't find how to get alternate glyphs to show. I know this is a virtually an undiscussed subject, but every once in a while there is a glyph that works better.
Dave Harris
If you select the text, the Typography panel should show the alternate glyphs that apply to that text. It depends on the font defining 'aalt' for the text's language. If nothing is showing, either the text's language isn't set, or the selected characters don't have any alternates, or the font just doesn't bother at all.
