  1. Project Brush Camouflage Set 11 Added new Brush set based on the vectors of Camouflage I 30 New Raster Brushes First sample Set combining 4 brush sets [Leaves , Texture, Bark Grunge and Canopy] Samples as below and 30 brushes in .zip file Enjoy! Camouflage - Mixed Sample Set.zip
  2. Affinity Designer for Desktop feature requests: 1. Add a "Recents" or "Recent Files" panel/option to the Welcome Dialog to quickly open a recent project. 2. Add a tracing feature to create an outline or centerline vector image from an original raster image, with option to choose how many colors and nodes to use in creating the vector. I use Corel Draw to do this easily. This is especially useful for converting scanned or photographed hand-drawn text into a vector image. I'd love to have this feature in Designer.
  3. Not a bug per-se, but there's a configuration error in Affinity Designer and Photo's raster brush settings while using "Velocity" to control brush size. I noticed this with previous versions and thought it might be addressed in 1.7, but unfortunately it's not. Using velocity to control the brush size is meant to change the brush size depending on the speed at which you draw. Think gel-pen - the quicker you draw, the thinner the line is, and the slower you draw, the thicker the line is. As it stands, in Affinity, it's more of a slow gradual build up in size regardless of the speed at which you draw - sometimes it doesn't really do anything at all to the size. Procreate's 'Gel Pen' brush is a great example of this, and so is ArtStudio Pro's brushes with velocity enabled. Clip Studio Paint also has it, which I used to demo the feature so that you can better understand what I mean. I've uploaded a quick screen recording of this to YouTube to better show what I mean (below). I've boosted the 'velocity' jitter significantly in CSP just to make it obvious, and I've maxed it out in Designer, but it isn't doing much. The velocity feature is super awesome for getting a digital brush to feel and behave 100% like a real ink pen. Would love to see this realised/fixed in a future update.
  4. Hi! I've noticed quite an annoying bug when selecting and moving raster artwork within Affinity Designer's Pixel Persona. I've noticed this same issue in Affinity Photo, as well as the latest beta versions of Designer and Photo, and I have no clue why it happens. When drawing with something like the pixel brush or any brush that has a hard edge (with little to no anti-aliasing), the artwork blurs when being moved, but only when selected with a selection marquee tool, such as the lasso tool, first - see attached screen recording. This leaves a very visible difference between the selected and moved and unmoved artwork, and is even visible at 100%, which is obviously a big no-no for client work. Not totally unrelated, the selection path also seems excessively jagged on screen in comparison to something like Photoshop. I often use the selection tool when colouring my work, but the edge is noticeably jagged, even when zoomed out to 100% as well. I initially thought this may just be the pixel preview, but the jagged edge is very present - see attached screen shot, and it's also very present in the screen recording video too while making the selection path. As a final side note, a Wand Selection tool in Designer's Pixel Persona would be SOOOO helpful. Anyway, I'm not sure if these are bugs, but any advice or workaround for these things will be greatly appreciated! Screen Recording 2019-05-10 at 09.03.56.mov
  5. Hi, just wondering if it is better practise to create assets for use again as veftor or raster?
  6. I would like to see some improvements to the brush engine in the affinity programs. I have been using the latest beta, but was disappointed that there seems to be hardly any improvement in this area. The most prominent bug has to do with the custom wet edges setting. Many lovely dynamic brushes have these, but these properties do not work when erasing: so when I want to use the same brush to erase (which is my normal workflow, paint/erase with the same brush) the brush is completely different, soft and blurry. I find this to be very annoying when trying to use AD or APh for drawing and painting. I have to create a workaround with masks or switch to a hard normal eraser, which does not look as nice. A related bug is that when I switch back from eraser to brush, the wet edges setting of the brush does not work, and I get a soft blurry brush. I have to switch back and forth between brushes for the real brush look. I really hope you can improve this, as it is pretty groundwork stuff when using these apps for raster illustration. The brush engine has potential, but this is holding it back. I use an iMac 2011 with 12 GB ram, el Capitan (no Metal) and and iPad Pro 12.9 PS I posted this in the normal suggestions section, but got no response, so I hope someone from Serif can respond here....
  7. At my current job we use Corel Draw in our graphic design department. I have switched to Affinity Designer and Photo for my personal work and these are my 5 features I use very often in Corel that I would love to see added. 1. Boundary Tool - Have a print/cut Roland printer and this tool is essential when creating a cut line around multiple objects. 2. Envelope Tool - Use this quite often for text effects. Converting to curves and manipulating from there works alright but Corel leaves the enveloped object still as text and can be still edited. 3. Flood Fill Tool - I'm able to replicate this using boolean operations but involves way more steps and occasionally will end up with odd quirks and unwanted results. 4. Blend Tool - I believe I have seen this is coming on the roadmap so hopefully soon 5. Raster to Vector Tracing - Also seen this is coming. Currently using Inkscape for this feature and then exporting/importing into Designer All this being said Designer is still one of the best applications I have used. How great this application already is has me very excited for future updates and enhancements.
  8. Project Brush Organics Re-visited Created some new brushes mainly for backgrounds..or anything else and decided to explore the new brush features in AD 1.7 a little deeper.. So... Added new Project Brush Organics Set (based on some of my first brush efforts but with new nozzles and edited brush dynamics) Containing..as usual: 30 new Raster Brushes using sampled image bitmaps rather than drawn vectors (mostly!) [ProjectBrush - Organics.zip] PDF sample sheet as attached Extras However, as the new brush engine is so versatile... you are presented with so many fantastic options that small changes create greater varied effects/results to brush appearance. Therefore instead of developing a 120 brush set (as before).. I have included: 30 additional Nozzles (.png) and image references to extend the options [Nozzle Extras.zip] Secondary Brush set which only includes single nozzle samples (as sample jpg) so you can see what effect they have alone. [Project Brush - Nozzle.zip] Templates/Presets Having the option of adding Sub-Brushes can make it a bit more time-consuming creating single brushes...So I added the option of using' Brush Templates' as a starting point...These simply have different configurations of nozzles at the parent and sub-brush level (makes things a bit quicker and saved on some repetitive actions!) [Project Brush - Brush Templates.zip] Duplicate the template then Switch nozzles from sample set or anything else created! Being able to duplicate from the context menu (right-click on brush) on brush panel makes this really easy.. PROJECT BRUSH -Organics 01 01.pdf ProjectBrush - Organics.zip Extras Elements Nozzles 30 additional Nozzles for brush variation add to templates/single nozzle brushes as required (have fun!) Nozzle Extras.zip Secondary Brush 30 raster brush set containing only single nozzle without sub - brushes Project Brush - NOZZLE BRUSH.zip Version 1.7 Brush Templates Use as basis for editing Project Brush - Brush Templates.zip
  9. Hi, I have cropped a photo to size. I have rasterised the layer, but when I'm using inpainting brush, it keeps taking data from outside the canvas, but as far as I know, it shouldn't, as the layer has been rasterised. The inpainting tool behaves as the layer has not been rasterised. Am I doing something wrong? APhoto Beta 1.7.0.188 I attach sample screenshots when I'm trying to inpaint building on the top right.

  13. Newbie here. I notice that when I use the crop tool to straighten an image or remove parts of an image, it lists in the history the various steps that I have taken. For example, I perform the following using the crop tool, and the corresponding data is shown in the history. Change mode of crop (to 16:9) Constrain Crop Pan around Pan Crop Resize Resize Crop Rotate Rotate Crop etc. Then, when I click apply, all of that history is erased and replaced by "Raster Crop." It appears that only one action has been take on the image. Is it possible to undo each of the steps that make up that change. If I click Undo (or go back a step), I have to start from scratch. I would rather be able to back up a step or two, like to after I did the Pan Crop (in the above example), and then do the Resize and Rotate again. Thanks for your help.
  14. Sorry, I wasn't in the Add mode. I don't know how to delete my post, so I'm just editing it. All is well now. Thanks. I'm pretty new to Affinity and loving Photo! But I'm trying to select small parts of an image and pasting each to a new layer. It worked perfectly for three layers and now the selection tool does nothing although the history says, "Raster smart selection brush and drag" with each click. But it's like it's locked out. I tried on another image and it still isn't working. Did I do something to turn it off? Tried it in an afphoto file and also a tif. I'm using the trial version of Photo since yesterday. Will be purchasing in a few days. Does that have something to do with it? Thanks for your help, Susan
  15. I only found this strange effect after quite a bit of chin stroking and hair pulling with something that was confusing the heck out of me. Workflow to re-create the issue (in Designer for Windows): 1. Create a new document containing an artboard (A5 landscape will be fine). 2. Draw a triangle that almost covers the whole artboard (don't go near the edges so you can see the effect better). 3. Give the triangle a Black stroke colour and a thick stroke width (16pt will be fine). 4. Go the the Export persona and export the artboard as "SVG (for web)". 5. View the exported SVG in a browser. All should look just fine at this point. 6. Go back to the Draw persona. 7. Select the artboard layer - NOT the triangle layer (but it does the same thing either way). 8. Change the Opacity of that layer to 90% (this is the thing I did by accident that was producing the strange problem). 9. Go back the the Export persona and export the artboard as "SVG (for web)" again. 5. View the exported SVG in a browser. The image now looks blurred. It's actually an SVG containing a raster of the triangle. You can prove this by editing the SVG in a text editor. Is this expected behaviour? (It took me ages to figure out what I'd done "wrong".) I did a quick search and only found the following related issue: * https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/63257-texts-rasterized-when-exporting-to-pdf
  16. Hello everyone i'm currently working on making my workflow with affinity products to be as fluid as it can so i won't mind not having other products installed. i know Designer and Photo use the same file format and i've learned about the place tool etc... but here is my need: Case: in Past days, using Adobe Products, i could prepare an A4/A5 Canvas on inDesign the work on my photo with PS then all vectors with Ai and when all is done just place them on my inDesign, adjust and if any change i want to do, i just right click on the stuff (picture or vector) select Open/Modify with, select the right software, do necessary changes there click Save come back to inDesign and see all changes Synched. i've tried to do that with Affinity products but up to now, i can't get the updated file synched after i have made changes and Saved the whole thing; it's just stays as it was the minute i placed it; so; maybe i'm missing something here on how to team them and use as efficient as i would do with Ai+PS+iD. Thank you all for your inputs.
  17. I am experiencing an issue with AD 1.6.1. I have used a DAUB vector brush to create a sketchy effect on a fill on this logo. I am having problems where the stroke caps and joins are distorting when enlarged over a certain size (est 75mm in width) and rasterised, either directly in the document or when exporting in any format. I understand that these brush sets contain raster elements, therefore must be rasterised on export, but why this is skewing the joins and caps i cannot explain. Weirdly, i have also noticed that the caps and joins change in appearance when i zoom in on the paths, not even resize, just zoom in, they look completely different. Is this a bug with the brush? Am i doing something wrong with my Nodes? Please help!

  19. I will just copy the contents of my issue from the facebook post I had made. Meant to post this here a lot earlier, but life got in the way: I’m not sure if it's by design, or a bug, but basically: When I draw circles in the pixel persona, I’d expect them to be as round as I draw them. However, for the lack of a better term, they look a bit ‘low poly’. Lots of edges instead of organic curves. Did anyone also encounter this, or maybe know what causes this? I’m using a Huion GT-191, Windows Ink enabled, on Windows 10. Had no performance issues whatsoever with my other raster-based art apps (Krita, Clip Studio Pro, etc.) Attached a screenshot, please zoom in to spot the harsh edges. If it's of any relevance, I use a dual-screen setup and they're both set at 1920x1080. I only have Affinity Designer open on one screen. Also encountered this issue with the Affinity Photo trial (I bought Designer by now and love it! Apart from this problem.)

  21. In Designer: I have shapes that are perfectly aligned on their edges but they are still showing the background behind especially when turned to raster elements. I have the points snapping to each other and have zoomed in very far to confirm that they are aligned. See attached sample. I know I can put one shape behind the other shape and then overlap them but I need to avoid doing this as I will have hundreds of these shapes and will need to delete different ones and have the space be accurate. I will be bringing the files into Photo and will be rasterizing the project at the end as well. It seems that AD is not seeing the edges as being perfectly next to each other despite the points being aligned. Even if I put a small stroke on the shapes the background is still showing through slightly. I'd rather not have to put on a stroke regardless. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Cheers! gaps.zip edit: I've even tried overlapping the shapes slightly and the background still shows through. Seems like it might be more of a bug.

  23. When exporting the document to SVG, no matter what settings I change I consistantly get one of two outcomes. 1.) --- The SVG becomes a rastered image when the export settings are set to rasterise unsupported properties. Helen's_Bike.svg 2.) --- The SVG becomes broken, Helen's_Bike_0.svg (Only the mask for the handlebars seems to work. All Shadow shapes display unmasked and the shapes used as masks seem to be released. Them being released also means that they are a layer above the Shadow layers) There are no effects on any layers, although there were previously. I had been experimenting with adding a stroke to the outside of the primary NewBike group. I have read multiple other threads that I thought might solve my solution, however nothing is working. Here is the working file Helen's_Bike.afdesign --- I appreciate any help. My only other option is paying a month for Creative Cloud to trace a PNG of the work I've done so far. And I seriously don't want to have to considering I just purchased this. I have a Windows machine and my version is a stable release. I believe version 1.5. this was downloaded half a week ago.
  24. I noticed that when exporting a vector-only document to PDF that many of the elements were being rasterised. I was surprised, as I had done a similar thing previously with no problems. After doing a bit of searching around the forums I noticed there seemed to have been problems in the past when vector masks had transparency, so I inspected my masks and discovered they all had strokes. After removing the strokes everything exported fine as vector elements in the PDF. I’m not sure if this is a known issue, intended behaviour (?!), or a bug, so I’m reporting it here just in case it’s helpful. (AD 1.5.3.69 on Windows)
