  1. Hi, I've googled this a quite a bit and seen a bunch of suggested tweaks that satisfied people, but I can't get anything to work, so sorry if this looks like a dupe. I'm trying to export vectors from Affinity Designer to SVG to use for a laser cutter. Every time I do, the SVG is resized. It doesn't matter what resolution or size document I use, or whether I specify an export resolution, or uncheck the "set viewBox" setting, or only export the objects and not the canvas, literally nothing produces an SVG file that preserves the actual size of what I've drawn. I've opened the SVGs in Inkscape, Lightburn, and AD itself, and they're always bigger. The first time I caught it, it had upscaled a 4" coaster to over a foot diameter. Resizing the image in another program isn't the biggest deal if all I'm doing is a 2-D design, but if I'm cutting pieces for a box with finger joints, resizing can throw things off big time. And going from AD to Inkscape to Lightburn just to get the SVG imported for the laser cutter is a bit of a pain, so I'm really hopeful there's a fix here. I've attached AD and SVG files of a simple square to demonstrate what I'm talking about. Specs: Affinity Designer 1.6.5, MacOS Mojave, recent MacBook Pro. Thanks! squaretest.afdesign squaretest.svg
  2. Hi, I have a very hard time understanding the slices and export. 1/ SLICES Should a slice not automatically be created from a layer.. ALWAYS ? Did I miss something? it seems to be it does at times and at other times it does not. 2/ LAYER DUPLICATE.. and SLICES When I duplicate a layer containing my design, rename it to something else than the original (say original is called Flyer.. and dupliate is renamed Web banner) it becomes a truly new layer thus shouldn't a new slice be automatically created at this juncture or am I totally off-base and shouldn't that slice inherit the name of the renamed layer also? 3/ UNITS If a file is set up as a print file, I think I can enter pixel unit in the Transform toolbox using px next to the number (though that box still shows mm).. and thus use pixel values for resizing layers that need to be in px for exports (my projects often include having to create both print and web elements). I'd swear at times entering pixel values in the Transform yields correct pixel exports and at times not at all.. Basically I'm trying to understand where I bug and where the software bugs.. as when different outcomes happen after a similar sequence of events.. I get totally confused not getting the expected result. PLEASE point me me to very clear Youtube or video tutorials (I need images to understand I do very badly with text tuts) .. H E L P At this point things I did farily easily if not very easily using Adobe products are still quite complex in affinity.. guess my brain is not yet matched to this way of thinking. I'm off Adobe but at times I miss it still.. I was hoping the switch would be slightly more intuitive. THX
  3. I have been trying and trying to get Slice Export to work for me on Affinity Designer iPad. I watched the tutorial video on how to do it. It just doesn't work for me. I tried exporting to iPad folder and also to various iCloud folders as well, nothing, it just doesn't export anything.
  4. So here I have a simplified example. I have a background and two layers. How do I: 1. automatically export each layer I want (in this case Layer1 and Layer2, but it might be a subset of all topmost layers) independent (with all non selected layers non-visible) with the background 2. do this all at once?

    PDF export takes forever

Whenever I try to export something as a PDF it just kind of hangs up with the generating export animation. I’ve let it go for like a solid 10 minutes now. Any idea how I can make this work better? I’ve attached an image of my export settings while it’s generating. Any help is appreciated! Thank you.
  6. Hello, i'm having an issue exporting a PDF for a print job. I have different layers for the artwork, the guide and the notes. When i export the file it is just a flat PDF with a white background, as apposed to a PDF that opens with the layers. How do i export with the option to show hide layers in other software, or even with a blank background? At the moment the white artwork just gets flattened into a white background and i'm just exporting a blank image. Thanks.
  7. Hi I'm trying to export my 4k document (3840x2160) to a PDF and then convert it to Illustrator and After Effects. However when I export it the output is resized to 1080 for some reason. If I export it to PNG it exports fime to the proper dimensions. Can you please help me? I've tried using max res settings as well as not rasterizing anything. I can resize the vectors accordingly so it's ok, its just an extra step that I'd like to avoid. Best, Michael
  8. I would like to have the ability to re-name files on export, other than to type in a new filename with every single pic. Other software (On1, ACDSee, Lightroom, DxO) let you use a template to rename files and store that template as a preset in the export settings. E.g. attaach a date to the filename, or - in my case - just attacj _Aff to document what programme was used ( I use several). To type in that attachment during save with each and every file can become tedious.
  9. Hi there, I really like the way you can do continuous export in Affinity, just wondering though. How do I set the export path so I don't have to re-do it each time I load the file? Thanks, Pete
  10. I am using Designer to make assets for a board game, and the slice tool is really great for separating into the digital vs print needs. However, when I open them to print, it's made assumptions about the scaling. I'm exporting at 300dpi because that's the print size but most are scaling them to fit. If I manually export, I can set the scaling and paper size. Is there any way for me to change these settings upon batch export? If not, does anyone have any workflow suggestions to do this? I can't be the only one with this problem.
  11. As someone who transferred to Affinity Designer upon launch, ditching the traditional Adobe Products that most of the industry utilizes I am, for the most part, thrilled with incorporating Affinity Designer into my workflow. However, there are two features that I have been longing for. The first of which is the incorporation of editable text in an exported PSD. Some clients desperately want the PSD files of all of the work in the final form, and documents with tons of text present an issue as all text now exports as a pixel layer. I know it is a huge coding ordeal, but it would be such a huge asset to us all. Please, in your next update try to incorporate this feature for your dedicated designers using your design programs so that we are not forced to find ridiculous workarounds. Secondly, I would love to see an option for batch exporting of artboards to save them as the individual artboard name in a dedicated folder. So much of my time is spent opening a new document and placing the contents of each artboard individually on a new canvas and saving them for client work. A batch save option would be extremely helpful, especially if the same options are available there like the ones currently available in the export menu.
  12. Hi, I have looked through many forums although can't find the answer to my issue! I need to export my Affinity Designer files so my suppliers can access all layers of artwork. They ask for PSD although when i export as PSD they say the file is exported as a "flat" image with no layers. When i open the PSD file on my computer, layers show perfectly? Is this a glitch? Or am I exporting it wrong? When i Export as PDF, and leave "Don't export layers hidden by Export persona" unchecked - does the PDF export as layers? So if my supplier opens in photoshop or other program they can access them? I need a way to just supply my artwork to my supplier in layers. Please help! Thanks! Beck
  13. I encountered this problem and was able to track it down to an .ai file I had placed into the art. Removing that image and replacing it with a png worked like a charm.

    Exporting to Dropbox

    Having trouble exporting SVG.

Hi loves! Super affinity designer newbie. I make logos for clients & for some reason having a hard time exporting to SVG.. I’ve sliced before on most of my designs & I usually have to do it a few times until it magically works. The specific design I created is like another I did & the SVG export worked. For some reason I can’t figure it out. I bought the book & super love it... but it doesn’t go into a lot of detail about exporting sadly. Please help. I will add file & hopefully someone can get it! I know I’m doing something wrong if I have to try to 20 times before not knowing what I did right. Haha. Thanks so so much! Untitled Copy_10.afdesign
  16. Publisher Beta, v1.7.0.293 for Mac: 15" MBP (2017), Mojave v10.14.4, 2.9GHz i7, 16Gb ram Since the latest Publisher update, whenever attempting to export pages from Publisher Beta, Atom (code editor) opens "tempimage_#.ext" files. I have not opened or modified Atom since prior to the last Publisher update. I have since disabled all Atom packages and restarted my entire system with no change in behavior. This happens for Publisher projects with one, several, and many pages... I am using master templates on all pages and have not confirmed if this occurs when not using templates. Additionally when in the export dialogue and I select a different file type to export to, Atom opens more windows. The export has been working despite this behavior.

  18. I’m thinking of getting Affinity for my iPad Pro. I want to edit raw files, save as jpgs and export to a flash drive or the Cloud. How can I find out what size file I would get after editing the raw file and saving as jpg? If I add keywording, etc., in a third-party app, will I lose any image quality? Thank you!
  19. Hi all, I created a shape using eight square 10X10 symbols. I used the grid view and snapped the squares into a 10px spacing grid. Now I notice that when I turn the grid off, there are grid lines around the squares. The grid lines disappear when viewing the document at 1000%. When I export as JPEG, I can see the grid lines. There is no stroke around the symbol, but if I add a stroke, the grid lines seem to disappear. I'd rather not add a stroke unless I need to. And, I'd like to use squares instead of rectangles. Is there a setting I'm unaware of that I should select to remove the grid lines, or is this a bug that hasn't been resolved yet? My file is attached. Thanks for your help. gridlines.afdesign
  20. Flickr now requires a photo uploaded from iPad to be a jpg in Photo App. How do I do that?
  21. In an attempt to get my head around Publisher’s PDF export behavior (compared to Adobe’s which I’m rather familiar with), I stumbled upon this thread which only touches some of my problems: Some settings in the export process (under File > Export > PDF > More) don’t seem fully developed yet, so I hope to find some clarity here: PDF/X-1a: The standard only allows CMYK and spot colors, so the options “As document” and “Grayscale” don’t make much sense, right? PDF/X-4: The standard allows several color models, but if I want to output CMYK-only (despite enjoying other X-4 possibilities), then I’d expect the option “CMYK” to yield a CMYK-only PDF. This only happens as expected if I choose to “rasterize everything” which is never a true option with my kind of projects. In other words: Why can I choose between three options when according to standards there’s only one possible result (= X-1a), and why is there only one result when according to standards there would be at least three options (and Publisher lets me even choose) (= X-4)? What part of the story did I miss, or am I just too deep into Adobe thinking to realize that what’s going on here is perfectly reasonable? Or is it really? Is it like “take it or leave it” – if I want CMYK-only files, I have to deal with losing transparencies and all in X-1a, and if I want e.g. transparency maintained, I have to accept all other X-4 possibilities not as options but as obligations? I admit I’m very used to (and have grown very fond of) the Adobe approach of being able to throw anything into a layout regardless of resolution, color model, file format, and ICC profile – and only having to decide in the very last seconds what to get on the far end. Thanks a lot for any insight!
  22. Hey, every time i export an .svg from AD to Figma, it always resizes to shrink the .svg image inside of one pixel. I'm new to AD and I'm only having this problem in AD. It's like it resizes itself in an export or something. Please check out this loom video of me going through all the steps. https://www.loom.com/share/90672ad2e6d94c6d9018f4b80aeb4c46 How can I export an .svg from AD that is 45x75px (or whatever) and it show up the same in Figma without me having to completely resize from a single pixel sized .svg?
  23. The text for export, especially .psd, should be fully editable, no matter if the text is curved, stretched or rotated. Maybe even if a FX is applied, but I guess that's a minor point. The lack of this feature is a major drawback IMO. Many of my clients need to edit the text themselves and most use PS. I know a lot of artists who need this feature.
  24. Hey! I'm having problem with Hexa colour, when exporting it ! So when I try to export something with the #808080, it usually becomes #7f7f7f. On my test, the #7f7f7f can become something else To check, I'm using the colour picker inside Firefox. I tried with Gimp too, same crazy result ! The goal was to use it as an alpha channel... in Gimp, because it can export it to a game texture .dds DXT5. The only format that can be ok to export the #808080 was on my case .gif Gray. You will be able to find all my files in the .zip file attached, to check the colour exported, and the .afphoto to be sure ! If gray file, I can't make #808080, or a pure 50% black............. Do I need to understand something I don't know ? Thx for your help ! 808080.7z Here are different export from the same file, you can use the browser colour picker if you want
  25. Hi all I quite happy with how I go about setting the pivot point on a shape in Affinity Designer. However, when I export the design to SVG, I want the pivot points to be saved as part of the shape as well. My aim is to rotate items using Javascript in the browser and I need that point, to pivot around (imagine a rectangle for a clock hand or something similar). Is this something I can do in Affinity Designer as part of exporting the shapes? Thanks
