  1. Summary When attempting to export a layer slice based on a rectangle with a gradient fill to an SVG with certain settings, Affinity Photo 1.3.4 crashes.Steps to Reproduce Open "AP Slice Crash.afphoto". Note the rectangle layer "transition-gradient" in the document. If there isn't one already, create a slice based on this layer in Export Persona mode. Choose any of the SVG export presets. Attempt to export this slice, either using the "Share" icon next to the slice in the Slices palette, or by clicking the "Export Selected" button. Expected Results Affinity Photo exports an SVG of this slice
  2. Hi All, I have just purchased Affinity Photo last night, usually i am using Canon DPP3/4 for basic photo editing. I shot Raw for family pictures only (just for hobby, not professional). Before this i had some trial with Capture One Pro and played around with the gradient tools and layering, seems to be straight forward to understand. Can anybody help to post a basic video tutorial for basic photo editing workflow: 1. Download image from memory card. I think this would be manually downloaded to a folder 2. Open the file in Affinity Photo. 3. Basic editing for overall sharpness, expos
  3. I think there should be some sync between the FILL tool and the GRADIENT editing tool. It seems all the flexibility of the fill tools isn't available in the gradient editor. You can easily add points, delete END points in the FILL tools (directly on the shape) but you can't remove end points on the gradient pop-up. You also can't COPY points easily in the FILL tool (directly on the shape). Otherwise help me right here...
  4. Is it only me or gradient in Affinity Designer looks "striped"? Gradients in Pixelmator, for example, are much smoother. It would be nice to see a smoother gradient tool.
  5. Hello, everybody, I'm curious when the radial gradient direction & distance features will be coming to AD. This is a feature I use of Illustrator's gradient tool all the time. I've attached examples of the tool's results, for those reading this who are unfamiliar with the effect. In Adobe's UI, the feature is implemented via the software's Gradient Annotator, either by dragging the small dot just past a radial/elliptical gradient's origin, or by clicking with the gradient tool on a radial gradient, somewhere away from the Gradient Annotator. Anyway, especially for applying re
  6. So most (all) gradients are even transitions along a 1d line. AD does 2d, so why not 2d gradients. This is in two parts. One) every gradient would have a "Distort Mode", distort mode brings up a grid of handles, rotated to the direction of the gradient and radial etc. for the respective gradient. These can be moved, distorting the gradient. This would be basically a special implementation of the second part; 2D gradients) each 2d gradient would be a assortment of points, each with controllable spread, hsl, and shape. Spread is the distance, think a gaussian function, squished or squashe
  7. Hello! I'm not quite sure where to post this, but I couldn't find anything about it, so here goes: I'm making a logo to be printed as a car sticker, and it has a lot of gradients and some line pressure going on. Client requested that I give it to them as an eps, but unchecking "rasterize gradients" meant that anything with transparency became completely solid. - this using the Beta. I then tried saving as a pdf, which did preserve the look, but rasterized all transparent objects, and removed the line pressure simulation. I opened these files both by using "open..." and "place" in
  8. Hi How do I go about creating a gradient disc in designer like the one attached Thank you Paul M
  9. If I create a text block and give it a drop shadow that text block will get rasterized if I export the file to PDF. That reduces the quality of the PDF significantly (no sharp edges, text not selectable). Is that normal or will that change in a later version of Affinity Designer? Also shapes with certain gradients (elliptical, conical) get rasterized without a vector clipping path. That means the shape no longer has a sharp edge. Will that change? Thank you! :) Rasterization.afdesign Rasterization.pdf
  10. I was playing with the Bitmap Fill, which is buried within the Gradient Fill type Pop-up menu. This doesn't make too much sense as a Bitmap is not a type of Fill Gradient.... Perhaps a better place is as another tab under the Move tool's Fill pop-up palette from the toolbar across the top:
  11. I'd love to have an integration between Adobe Color CC (aka Adobe Kuler) and Affinity Designer. You can find Adobe Color CC here ---> https://color.adobe.com/it/create/color-wheel/ It would be great also to import .ASE files like the one attached Thanks Purple 01.ase.zip
  12. I coloured a line (one straight segment drawn with the pen, 1 point wide) with a gradient. On reflection, this was unwise but AD let me do it and correctly reflected it on screen. When I printed the document, my line came out solid black :( . Saving to PDF gives the same result (unsurprising as printing uses PDF and, yes, I remembered later that Postscript doesn't support gradients on a line). I'm happy (very happy) that AD allows gradients on lines but I think it should warn about the loss of features when printing (so, by extension, in PDF exports). I didn't get an error message and don
  13. Hi, I'm new to afd and just starting learning. I opened an existing jpg, very simple line drawing, then I chose one part of the drawing with selection brush. Works nice. Now I'd like to fill this selection with a gradient and then select another area in drawing and repeat this and finally I would have the whole drawing in color and I still could modify each gradient separately. I just don't manage to succeed with any instinctive approach (photoshop-style tools use).
  14. Hi, I've searched an answer but didn't find. How can I edit (f.ex. fill with colour or with gradient, convert to curves, etc.) an object that was imported as a png file (with transparent background)? When I draw a circle in AD, I can do with it whatever I want, but when I'm trying to fill an imported object with a gradient, the selection dissapears and I can do nothing with it. Also changing the colour of drawed object is dynamic, but for the imported object I have to use Flood Fill. I'd be grateful for some help. Regards, Anna
  15. Hi I have Just bought affinity to replace illustrator and i am loving it but i am still trying to figure out how to do certain things. I have started to create a ad for new balance as a project for college i traced the shoe using the pen tool but i didn't close the shapes i just started new lines. Is there a way of colouring the shapes or will i have to close each line and make a shape. the attachment might make this make more sense. Thanks Untitled.afdesign
  16. This one just covering the basics of the fill tool, also covering using a repeating texture with a bitmap fill...
  17. will someone pls explain the gradient tool. it does not make sense. read the instructions. the slider thingy on my image keeps disappearing. one minute its there. next, its gone. how do i get two colours? there is only one colour on the colour wheel. in the instructions there is a gradient tab. i don't have it. its hard to explain. gradients make no sense. i am struggling.
  18. Gradient overlay (white to back) causes a visual distortion. Creates colour issues and weird lines. See screeshot attached. Even when the panel is closed and the object deselected the distortion remains. This happen on any most settings other than normal for the blend mode.
  19. Hi, there seems to be another bug in the Lion version of Affinity Designer. Let me apologize in advance if I am mistaken. But when I select an object (say, a rectangle) using the gradient tool, choose "Context: Line" from the appropriate menu, draw the gradient and try to change it afterwards through the gradient panel, the fill and not the line is changed. To be sure "Context: Line" is still selected. Please have a look at my video. Best, Alex
  20. This is part 2 of yesterday's gradient post that is now locked. I just want to mention a couple more things that I didn't get a chance to do. Matt, My problem is I will often make a colour in the middle and then realize it needs to go on the end. Right now I am working on an illustration where I need three shades for the same colour. A darker part for the shadows and a brighter spot for the highlights. The way I have been doing it is I start with the midrange colour and then drag it to one end for the highlight and then to the other side for the shadow but the way it is set up now you can'
  21. I was reading up in the help file on using gradients and it said that I could drag the end points of a gradient but when I tried to do this nothing moves.
  22. General question or idea: is there a way to draw in autofill/loop mode with the vector line-tool? that's for creating closed shapes, maybe with a smoothing slider? And even more important: do you see a way to integrate intelligent gradient fill for this function? Would be a KILLER feature. Settings: Smooth, Autoloop, Fill, Gradient The idea is to make the gradient fill depending on where you start drawing your shape. Gradient fill always from color to transparency, with a slider for color intensity. Normal vector fill (whatever setting) is just so 90'ies - having seen what YOU can do,
  23. Hi, When I have the gradient panel open, then delete a color, then hit ctrl+z to undo, the color remains gone from the panel (though it returns to the object with the gradient). Thanks.
