  1. After cleaning registry of Affinity entries and removing related Affinity dll's attempted installing the 1.6.3 version and received the message below. Please advice.
  2. Uninstalling with Windows Programs did not work. WISE uninstaller seemed to work, but when attempting to re-install I got the message below for both install of AD and AP:
  3. Be very careful installing these updates! Both AD and AP crash when clicking any menu item. Uninstalling and then reinstalling results in a message newer version is already installed and new install terminates. Basically I am without AD and AP now. I am running Windows 10.
  4. Very clever design, well executed and with a great palette. Kudos.
  5. Affinity has planned the release of Publisher for DTP-artists, somewhere halfway this year I think. That would make it pointless to buy something else. Perhaps until the release date, go for Scribus which is an open source DTP program. It has its limitations and the UI is a pain to use (my opinion), but at least you won't depart with money that was better saved for buying Affinity Publisher.
  6. Thanks Paaul, I was just watching this video, lol
  7. I just found a way to do it! I work on a PC and there's a 'Tone Mapping Persona' that allows to view in split screen or Mirrored screen mode. This gives perfect previews. Sorry, new to AP, still learning the tricks of the trade.
  8. I loved InDesign and after they started the subscription model I tried QuarkXpress and even Scribus, but they're not anywhere near where InDesign is. I'm eagerly awaiting what Serif comes up with for the DTP trade and have good hope it will be a decent program, bearing in mind the excellent job they did with AP.
  9. That is exactly what I mean, Paul, but I can't find similar options in the 'Adjustments' and 'Layer Effects' at the bottom of the layers panel. Such an option is great to get better control of adjustments.
  10. I have tried that. I merely wanted to say that there's no 'preview' option that allows to compare the difference between the original and the intended alterations. I'm not say the current functions don't do the job, just exploring alternatives, which probably is feasible for the Serif developers since they don't have to bother with 'legacy code' like developers of other programs that are available (at huge costs) in the same field.
  11. Adobe is dying, but they haven't yet figured that out themselves. Committed suicide actually by introducing that client unfriendly subscription model. I have no experience with AD yet, but this looks good.
  12. Every action in Affinity Photo is made visible in real time, but there is no way to compare the effect of intended actions relative to the original before actually applying them, not having to undo and make an additional attempt afterwards.
  13. In Faststone image viewer there are some options to edit an image. In the attached screendump, indicated by the red arrow at the right, there is a button that allows to toggle between the original image and the version to which the changes are applied. It allows to compare the changes before applying them and there also is a reset button to go back to the original image if the changes you made are not satisfactory (after which you can have an other go at applying changes).
  14. Starting to understand the layer functions in AP. I use a white rectangular layer between background and the layer that I draw on; this white layer's opacity I change to see the background and the result of my drawing. Mostly used various (customized) Brushes, the Smear tool and the Burn and Dodge tool. Some effect filters. This portrait was drawn from scratch and many temporary layers have been merged down. Actual size of the portrait is 60 x 46 cm, reference image was a small b&W photograph. What I would like to see in the Layer Adjustment functions is a button to see the original state to compare with applied function.
  15. Hi, Used Corel PhotoPaint before until it suddenly no longer exported png-files. I make portraits from scrap with a photo-editor and really began to like Affinity Photo. Still in the process of discovering functions. But I can use it already. Attached are progress sequence and final image, 100% Affinity Photo. 300dpi, actual size of image is 5 times larger, Affinity had no problem handling that. Absolutely great program. Kudos to the developers.
