A very neutral comparison that doesn't include the advantages that only Affinity has. I'm thinking of the personas, for example. I just had a trial version of XPress and recently also a trial version of InDesign, and it immediately became clear to me why I like working with Affinity – I feel comfortable in the environment, and everything runs so smartly and smoothly. Sure, tables across multiple pages and a few other features are still missing, but the ongoing updates make me optimistic.

I've opened a PDF in Affinity and now need to place text on paths. For some reason, the path is displayed at an angle of 180 degrees. I can't place the text properly, and I'd have to redraw all the paths. Is there a solution?

The document is approximately 1.2 GB in size with images and should not be published directly here? I tried again today with the latest beta, same result.

The program crashes when trying to open a document from the current version. It only affects this brochure (80 pages, double pages).

Thank you again for the answer. A small work around, for example, is not to work with kerning but with “thin space” for abbreviations. Is it actually possible to ignore line breaks that exist in the text for the running title?

Thanks for the reply. The problem can be reproduced at any time. Attached is my example file with a kerning of -100 in "Text" between "T" and "e"

A kerning in a word results in the column title no longer being correct.

Thank you for the explanation. This was a PDF that I opened in Publisher. The texts cannot be selected or modified. Even though I've been working with Publisher since 1.0, I haven't seen it that way yet. Just by moving it the circles went away. But that's really not a big issue, I asked purely out of interest. Thank you again for the quick reply.

I just received brochures from the print shop. I missed that in the PDF. That shouldn't happen, it could be very expensive for me if I have to print the edition again.

OK, the forum thing was a joke. But the forum can do better (see figure). What is really missing is the distance to the font line, the thickness of the underline and the recess of the font descenders.

Thanks for your quick reply. Ohhh, that's really a basic functionality**. These are things that are difficult to explain when someone asks if they can switch to Affinity. And I will probably focus on underlining individual words in the text in my current project.

In my opinion, the Styles palette in Affinity is one of the few not-so-well-done features. I can't edit, search and replace styles and I can't sort the styles in the palette. The whole thing makes a somewhat unfinished impression.

If it's just me, then wait for the final version, no problem. In the meantime, I have updated the operating system to OS X 13.5.1 and restarted everything. Publisher and Designer are 1954 and the small error can be reproduced at any time. I have also tested 2.1.1 again and everything is fine.

Is there anything specific you are doing before changing persona? Nothing. I have just tried again.

When I switch from Publisher to Designer Persona, all handles disappear and I can no longer select them. Only when I zoom back and forth do the handles reappear. Is there a new function that I have overlooked or is it a bug?

The current beta version again brings long desired improvements such as Object creation data entry and Move data entry and new keyboard shortcuts. But the possibility to assign a keyboard shortcut for Text Horizontal Scale is still missing. I often use this for justification in justified text.
