  3. How do you make a vector mask containing a hole in Affinity Photo? Assume I want to mask a photo of a doughnut in Affinity Photo. I want a vector mask so I can modify it with precision at any time. I use the pen tool to draw a closed curve around the perimeter of the doughnut , then fill the curve black. I present my filled curve to the doughnut layer and get the short blue vertical line. The mask works as expected, but of course the hole has not been addressed. How do I deal with the hole? Nothing I have tried works, except the following: I draw another closed curve for the doughnut hole and fill it black. I position this layer below the doughnut / mask layers described above, and change its Mode to Erase. Now I have the doughnut , a transparent background and transparent hole. This is exactly what I want, with the ability to edit both the doughnut perimeter and the hole, using the node tool. This technique seems to work well, but it feels like a work-around. Is this the only way to make a vector mask containing a hole?

  6. I would like to have the ability to drag multiple images onto the Focus Merge window, rather than use the Add button to select the images from a folder. Background: I use an Olympus OM-D camera with built-in focus bracketing to focus stack my jewelry photos. This works very well with the Affinity Photo Focus Merge feature. However, you have to "Add" the bracketed images to the Focus Merge window, which means browsing to the sub-folder that contains the images and selecting the one's you want to add for merging. When I import my camera images to the PC, the Olympus "Viewer" automatically opens and displays my focus bracketed images. It would be much faster to simply select the images in the viewer and drag them onto the AP Focus Merge window rather than browse through sub-folders. I'm able to select multiple Olympus Viewer images and drag them to AP Photo Persona, but this creates multiple individual image tabs. Would it be possible in the future to drag multiple images into the Focus Merge window?
  7. Thanks everyone! Layer>Geometry: Subtract converted my two curves into a single layer, which allowed me to mask my image with a hole in the center. I had never even noticed the Geometry options in the Layers menu before.
  8. Thank you. The donut shape can be made to work as a mask after converting it to curves, adding many points, and moving each node to conform to the object I wish to mask. That is a lot of work. I really need to stay with closed curves which I draw myself. How do I geometrical subtract two closed curves in Affinity Photo?
  9. Thank you. I've seen this video. However it demonstrates a simple, single mask. I 'm dealing with a round mask with a hole in the center.
  10. I agree with the Drag & Drop to Focus Merge. I use this feature a lot and have to go through sub-folders to "Add" the images I'm already looking at. What is especially frustrating is that AP doesn't remember the last folder I pulled from, so the folder hunt starts all over again when I Focus Merge the next collection from the camera. I really love Affinity Photo and hope to see Drag & Drop to the Focus Merge window. I can Drag & Drop photos to the main window, but that creates new tabs for each image.
  11. The Live Lighting Filter allows you to import an image to use as a bump map. I would also like the option to use an existing layer within the open document as the bump map (Much like the way the Displacement Map filter allows you to use another layer as the source. However I think entering or selecting the layer name in the Lighting filter panel would be preferred over the "Use layers below" approach in the DM filter) With an imported bump map, you can't make any edits to the bump map without opening it as a separate document. That makes it very difficult to edit the bump map in context of the image you are applying it to. By allowing an existing layer within the open document to be used as the bump map, you could easily modify it and quickly see the results. Examples: erase a portion of the bump map where you want no texture, alter the contrast of the bump map, rotate, re-size the bump map, etc. all without the trial & error of editing a separate image.   13. I would like to see the ability to set the Rotation Resolution in Preferences. My work in Affinity Photo on a PC requires matching elements from different image sources. I can select the Move Tool and rotate a layer with the mouse, but to get a precise alignment, I've tried the Rotation numeric entry in the Transform window. It's great to be able to click on the number and use the mouse wheel to change the value, but the 1 degree increments are not precise enough. I think the ability to select the decimal place resolution in Preferences of 1, 1.0 or 1.00 would be a great enhancement. Or, another possible enhancement would be to hold down a key while changing the Rotation value to temporarily increase the resolution. Example: Hold left arrow to decrease resolution, hold right arrow to increase. Thanks for your consideration!

In Photo I often need to make a selection of an area than contains a complex variety of colors (Think plaid shirt I've tried: Select > Select Sampled Color But it only allows a selection based on a single color. I would like to see this tool modified so each additional color pick can add to the existing selection(s). With the adjustable tolerance setting, I think it would be easy to select areas having a variety of colors in just a few clicks. And of course you could first draw out a simple pre-selection perimeter to limit your color selections to within that isolated perimeter. Thanks for your consideration. Love Affinity Photo on my PC! Edit..... On further experimentation I found the Flood Select tool is what I need to use (AKA Magic Wand). Set Tolerance to 6% & uncheck Contiguous. Set to Add. Click the various colors inside the desired area. Also, if you click & drag, the Tolerance will dynamically change – so drag until the selection spills over, then back off slightly. When the selection is complete, Smooth 1px and Feather 1px. With the selection still active, convert to a Mask layer. To do so, Layer > New Mask Layer. To edit or smooth the edges of the Mask, click on the Mask layer and paint with a soft white brush to reveal, and a soft black brush to hide.
  15. In Affinity Photo (PC) I have a Parent pixel layer with nine adjustment layers nested below. I now wish to replace the contents of the Parent layer only with a new image I brought in. I can't seem to accomplish this, as pasting creates a new layer. I also tried merging (visible) the Parent layer and the new image layer without success. So how can you update (replace) a Parent layer with a new image, while keeping the child layers?
  16. Thanks toltec - I went with option #1. I thought maybe I was missing a way to replace it directly, but dragging the nested layers to a new parent works fine.

  18. I'd like to see an additional Gradient Type added to the option list: Square I find it very useful. Easier than using two linear gradients to get a simple star effect. Here is a screen shot from Corel Draw Thanks for your consideration. Love Affinity Photo on my PC!
  19. I agree - I miss having "crop to selection" after switching to Affinity Photo.
  20. My photo retouching workflow often results in many layers, such that I can't see them all in the layer list. When I attempt to use the mouse to drag a layer near the top of the stack to the bottom of the stack, I can only move within the range of visible layers. I can't reach a layer below those that are visible in the panel. I'd like to see a shortcut where you can select a layer, then use the up / down arrow keys to move it to a new location. It should scroll the layer stack if you're attempting to "arrow down" toward the bottom of the stack.   21. Yes - The Standard Color Picker needs numeric values. I use it as a quick way to see if, and where, I have any blown out areas (all white) when retouching photos.
  22. Please show the color numeric values as you move the Color Picker over the image. Paint Shop Pro has this feature and it is very useful. Perhaps the value shown (RGB, CMYK, etc) could be set in Preferences. Love Affinity Photo on my PC. Thank you for your consideration.
  23. I have defined a Crop Preset (in pixels) that is smaller than the canvas I'm working on. When I select my Crop Preset, the crop region aligns to the left side of my canvas. I would expect it to self-align to the center of my canvas, both horizontally & vertically. This may seem like a minor request. But I have a workflow that requires a crop precisely aligned to the center of the image. I don't see a way to precisely center the crop, so I end up moving it and judging by eye where the center is.
