Scotthit reacted to My1 in How Do We Get Affinity Store (Windows) Updates
well one problem to start is that a winstore version wont run on win7. also a UWP piece of software wont run on win8.1 either. axing any of those 2 is in my opinion not a good Idea because both are still in support and Windows 10 still is a piece of problematic software where drivers can fail and a lot of other funny stuff can happen with their system of 2 big updates per year.

and to top it off, you need an MS account for the Win Store which has its implications, especially if it still behaves like back when I tried the Win10 Store the first time, where it wanted to convert your whoole user account into a Windows account, in comparison Win8 let me the option of setting up the MS account only in the store which is way less problematic.

and at the very least I trust microsoft not a bit, especially with their recent path of win10s and even going as far to say it's the "soul" of win10, and having a full lockdown, honestly builds a scary image of the FUture of windows in my Mind at the very least.

Scotthit reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Photo for iPad launched at Apple WWDC
Affinity Photo for iPad – the first fully-featured, truly professional photo editing tool to arrive on Apple’s tablet – is now on sale.

We were proud to be able to launch it during the keynote at Apple’s WWDC in San Jose on 5 June – the highlight of Apple’s global product launch calendar.

If you saw that, or if you use Affinity Photo already, you’ll understand why it’s the choice of thousands of professional photographers, retouchers and editors around the world.

We think Affinity Photo for iPad redefines photo editing once again, by bringing almost all the features in the Mac version to your iPad, so you can take all that photo editing power with you wherever you go.

The new version is tailored to harness the explosive power of the iPad’s hardware and touch capabilities, and is compatible with iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 10.5-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch. Please note this is not the list of iPads that the App Store suggests it will work with, see this post for an explanation.

We expect this to be the biggest launch we’ve ever had and even better, Affinity Photo for iPad is priced at an introductory discount of more than 30 per cent in the App Store – so for now, you pay £19.99 / $19.99USD / 21,99€.

Scotthit reacted to Dale in Affinity Photo is Apple's Best Mac App of 2015
As if we didn't have enough good stuff to tell you today with our amazing pair of app updates, we learned this afternoon that Affinity Photo is the Best Mac App of 2015!

We can't quite believe it, but it's true! That makes it best photo app too, but it’s also BEST ANY KIND OF MAC APP OF THE YEAR! Best App! :) Amazing, thank you Apple! This is what developers dream of!

There's not too much more to say except thank you, to Apple of course but also to everyone that has helped us shape the app into what it is. Pop over to our blog to read and see a little more.

    Thank you, Dale.

Scotthit reacted to MattP in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.6 - Beta 1)
    Status: Beta Release
    Purpose: New features, fixes
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

This is the first beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

    Fixes/Improvements:
First and foremost, the 1.6 version is mainly about: Light UI! (go to Preferences->User Interface) Improved view pan/zoom performance and new pixel-differencing pixel shader Improved performance with large documents New font chooser dropdown with recents, used fonts and favourites New Glyph browser Stroke stabiliser for all pencil and brush tools Align to key items (first/last selected) Text frame vertical alignment options Fit frame to text (double-click on bottom centre handle). Transform panel uses the rotation centre Scale/shear can now be performed about rotation centre Double-click now resets shape handles and rotate/shear handles Many PDF export improvements including vector export of multi-stop gradients Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements

You can try going to update tab in the App Store and refresh with CMD+R. It is working in most territories but sometimes it take awhile.

I totally agree with your assessments here.  I wonder though, about the new file/folder system in iOS 11. I'm betting that it will be strictly cloud based and not machine local. That, would be like a step forward and two giant steps back, UNLESS they implemented something like Dropbox, where you don't need to store files locally on your desktop machine's drive, and only via the web.

Of course, the better solution, as you noted, would be to have an actual physical storage device for these things. But without a non-proprietary way to hook up to such a thing, it's already a dead in the water idea. Apple will NEVER let its users have access to a physical file system. Even if root is hidden. Still too much of as security risk.

I've used the Sandisk Media Drive for a while, and it's a pretty cool solution, but at the end of the day, its battery will eventually die, and you also have to make sure that it is charged before really working with it. Not very elegant or practical IMO.

    Hi MEB
OK, so it's useless as far as my needs are concerned. I'll continue using it as a stand-alone app and I'll be waiting for the future HDR tool promised for AP.
