  1. No apologies necessary. I think the other request is for a keyboard shortcut modifier (if I’m reading it correctly) and you seem to want a separate tool, so they’re different requests for the same sort of requirements. Because of that I think they are both legitimate as separate requests which show that there is a need for something but that there are (at least) two different ways that have been requested to fulfil that need. Rather than a new tool, I’m wondering if the View (Pan) Tool could be extended to incorporate a rotate function via a keyboard modifier (the View Tool doesn’t do much else other than panning as far as I know). Or, perhaps, the View Tool, and Zoom Tool could be combined, with the new rotation functionality, into a new Navigator Tool where you could, for example, pan by dragging, zoom by Shift+dragging, and rotate by Ctrl+dragging. (I don’t use these tools much so that might be a very bad idea for reasons I don’t understand.)

  3. Isn’t this what “Settings → Assistant → Brush tool sharing → Brush shared between all tools” does for you when you switch between the Paint Brush Tool and the Eraser Brush Tool? If not, can you give more details of your requirements?
  4. Dragging a layer from top to bottom, or bottom to top, in the Layers Panel doesn’t always work for me in Photo 2.3 on Windows 10 – see attached video – but this might be a slightly different issue (or I’m just doing it wrong). If I drop when the mouse pointer is near the top/bottom then it seems to work but not if I leave a ‘gap’. 2023-12-12 10-15-43.mp4
  5. I believe (dredging up from my dubious long-term memory) that the “L” is used for “Close” as that’s the standard shortcut key letter in Windows for that sort of button in a dialog because “C” is used as the standard shortcut key letter for “Cancel”. (I don’t have proof of this, just a vague memory from a long time ago.) If they were the same then the user could accidentally “Close” a dialog when they pressed “C” expecting to “Cancel” it. Even in dialogs where there is only one button, it’s useful for this to be standardised across all dialogs in an application (and across the OS).
  6. If the grid is not part of the image, and the background is a consistent colour, it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to paint over the spots with the Paint Brush Tool. If the grid is not part of the image, and the background is not a consistent colour, then the Blemish Removal Tool might be a better option, or the Healing Brush Tool, or the Inpainting Brush Tool. Any of these tools will, if used correctly, leave the text intact and unchanged.
  7. I think it’s worth noting that what you are trying to do isn’t “cropping”. Cropping is normally thought of as the action of reducing the dimensions of the image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cropping_(image) I think it’s also worth noting that, because your image has such a brightly-coloured background, simply removing/replacing the existing background won’t give a pleasing result because the background colour can still be seen reflected onto the foreground objects You can see this on the left of your photo where the seat has become green-ish. To get a better result you will need to modify the image further to try and remove this ‘reflected colour’, but I’m not the best person to advise on that.
  8. A number of users have shared calendar templates, including using Data Merge for different years, in the Resources section of the forums. Have you looked at those templates to see how they work? As for the problem with tables, as I understand it, the Paragraph Styles applied to a table on a master page are ‘set’ on the normal page when you start to enter values in the cells on the normal page and they can’t be changed in the normal pages by applying a different Paragraph Style to the cells of the table in the master page. If this is correct, I don’t know if it’s expected behaviour or not. Also, re-applying the master page to a normal page can often disconnect the table from the master on that page, so you can’t do it that way either. However, you can apply a different Paragraph Style to the cells of each table on the normal pages – not as quick as a one-time fix but doable if you only have twelve months to do.
  9. You should be able to do most of the normal modifications which the Edit Text Style dialog lets you do via the Paragraph Panel (and Character Panel) and then update the text using the style via the “Update Paragraph Style” button (or “Update Character Style” button) in the Text Styles Panel (where there are also buttons for creating text styles). By doing that you might be able to reduce your reliance upon the dialog and make things a bit easier.
  10. You’re welcome. I don’t know of anything else you can try but someone else might. One thing you can do, and it’s a bit of a ‘hack’, is to move the window via the keyboard shortcuts – Alt+Space, “M” key, and then use the arrow keys to move the window – but I wouldn’t like to have to do that very often.
  11. In terms of Affinity applications and documents... The ‘application version’ of the document is the version of the application you last saved that document in, not the version of the application the document was first created in. You cannot (generally) open a document in an application which has a lower version number than that of the application which you last saved that document in. I hope that helps to explain things. P.S. I don’t know what you mean by “created a master for my publication” (not a term I'm aware of in the 'Affinity universe') so I might not be understanding what the problem is. If you can explain more about what you mean by this then that would help.
  12. Welcome to the forums @Lunsdum There’s nothing you can do to change the size of the dialog box in relation to the rest of the UI – it’s of a fixed size with no resize capability. I notice that the screenshot you supplied is 1920x1280 which is HD so my guess is that your system settings have the Scale set to something much larger than 100%. Go to “Windows Start → Settings → System → Display” and look at the “Scale and layout” settings. Try changing the percentage to 100% if it is not set to that already.
  13. Dunno, maybe. They said that turning antialiasing off is “useless for fonts”, which isn’t my general experience, so that sounds a bit unusual. What I do know is that without any details about the problem we can’t know what the problem is.
  14. If you can give us more details – preferably with visual examples – regarding: What you are starting with; What you are trying to achieve; Which font you are using (and version); Where/how you will be using the result; What you hoped to achieve by switching antialiasing off; Why turning antialiasing off doesn’t get you what you want; Which OS you are using (and version); Which Affinity application you are using (and version); ...then we can probably help further. P.S. I see that you have posted about the same thing in two different threads. That’s not an optimal thing to do as your replies will be split between two threads and therefore the advice will be ‘diluted’, especially for other people looking for the same answers.
  15. An alternative to the advice above, in this particular case, could be to use a Table with the “All Horizontals” formatting of the cell borders given a Stroke. See attached video for a quick example. Once you have set-up the table in this way it will be easy to format the individual cells as necessary if you want some lines/cells to look slightly different. 2023-12-11 09-04-50.mp4
  16. If the developers don’t know that there is a problem with something then that problem will probably not be fixed in a later version, so waiting for the next version may not help you much. If you can’t describe a problem, and we can’t see what the problem is, then it’s difficult for us to be able to help you with it. If you cannot describe a problem in words, and a screenshot won’t give us a good idea of what’s wrong, it’s often useful if you can share a video of what’s happening - preferably with some commentary/information (in voice or text) to let us know where to look for the problem. Once we have an idea of what the problem is, someone can probably help further.
  17. Without wanting to put words in someone else’s mouth, there are so many other options available to people – irfanview, xnview, etc. – that Serif may not think it’s worth adding this functionality just at the moment, given their current workload, etc. Something that is vital for some people may be something that is not used at all by other people. With so many requests coming in to a finite and small number of people at Serif, things have to be prioritised.
  18. This sort of functionality has been requested quite a few times – just search the forums for contact sheet and see how many threads there are. The latest response from Serif that I could find is from about a month ago: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/194353-contact-sheet-creation/ Serif generally don’t give us timescales for new features (or tell us if they will ever arrive); the best we can do is to follow the relevant beta forums and wait and see what happens.
  19. Glad you’ve managed to get it sorted but I’m curious about the bit where you said: I created a new document, with no Frame Text layers (or any other layers) in it, and I can display the Text Frame Panel as expected – as can be seen in my attached screenshot. (I normally have it permanently pinned to my Right Studio where it is always available.) I can also see the panel, and make it in/visible, when no document is open. That’s got me wondering what the actual cause of the problem was, or whether I’m not understanding the problem correctly. (Or maybe it’s a Mac-only problem?)
  20. No problem, just one of those things – easily done by anyone. P.S. Did you know that you can quickly make a rectangle into a square by double-clicking the top/bottom/right/left handle rather than dragging it? (This works with other shapes too.)
  21. Three possibilities spring to mind: 1. The panel is there but its title has been abbreviated (maybe to “Frm”), making it harder to find; 2. The panel is in a Studio which isn’t visible; use menu “Window → Studio → Show Left/Right Studio” to see it; 3. The panel is off-screen on a different (now-unconnected) screen.
  22. It looks okay to me – see attached screenshot. In your example document you have not used squares; could that be the problem you are seeing? It’s worth noting that, as it says in the Help (my emphasis): “Fibonacci—the spiral approximates the golden spiral using quarter turn angles derived from the Fibonacci sequence (0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13); the spiral is drawn out from its centre.”
  23. I made a similar suggestion here to introduce a Profiles Panel so that Profiles could be saved and re-used wherever a profile was needed: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/124373-stroke-pressure-settings-window-any-way-to-expand-this-view/&do=findComment&comment=680806 ...but I don’t think I got round to making an actual request. Now I have a request that I can ‘keep an eye on’.
