I am looking to copy the formatting of typesetting from one paragraph to another. It is easy in InDesign using the eyedropper tool, not so easy in Quark. Does anyone have a suggestion please how to do this in Affinity Publisher? I can not find it in the help dropdown. Thank you.

I too need this on a daily basis and am missing this feature a lot while transferring from InDesign to AP.
My use case is layouting a small newspaper and getting the texts from about 6 different people.
I have to go on a layout after content principle. This means the writers don't care much about the correct length of their articles and after the first layout run i do have to tell them "this could be xx characters longer" or "this have to be 234 characters shorter" etc.
For the last years there is the handy "info tool" in indesign which i use for:
    - See the total count of characters in the text's columns (linked)
    - See the count of characters in marked text
    - see the count of overflowing text (that's for me the most helpful part)
As stated above, this whole counting is a feature in almost every software that deals with text and should be in AP as well.

Is there a way to quickly change straight single and double quotes to typographical (curly) quotes in a selection of text? I know Publisher will currently change those things when typing, but it does not appear to do so when pasting from another source.
So far, I can only think to run four regex replaces, but as the find/replace is cumbersome for at multiple searches (since we can't currently save searches), I am wondering if there is a better solution. If not, I think it could be a useful feature to add, akin to the various change case operations in the Text->Capitalization menus.

I would also like to suggest the "Balance ragged lines" feature. This is something I use in almost every publication I produce.
For those who do not know what I am talking about, this is a feature from InDesign. Imagine a center-aligned heading that is just a bit too long to fit on a single line. Normally, this would mean only the last word or so would get bumped to the next line. Such as this:
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy
    dog
Balance ragged lines would instead display the following, without any need for forcing a line break:
    The quick brown fox jumped
    over the lazy dog

An absolutely essential Baseline Grid functionality is to align text with:
    «All Lines» or «First Line Only». Making a Magazine without the «First Line Only» is quite annoying.
Would be great if you could this essential layout feature implement in version 1.

PDF export keeps setting itself back to spreads instead of pages. First, you are rarely exporting spreads and second, it can't keep reseting every time you export the document – an annoying bug, sent spreads to printers instead of pages by accidentally not changing the setting for the 100th time.

pethr got a reaction from sbe in Replacing image should keep the scale of the original
Replacing image even with the very same file results in image being placed at 100% scale requiring rescaling even if you for example only resaved the original image in different format etc. Expected behaviour would be to try to keep the settings of image you are replacing at least if the new file has the same dimensions.

Are there any plans to add scripting support?
I notice there is no Applescript library at all but am interested to know if there are plans to add Applescript or perhaps Javascript support. Virtually everything we do as far as creating PDFs, packaging, placing images and text, formatting, proofing, sending pages to print etc is done via script.
Tagged text goes hand-in-hand with scripting so I think this needs to also be supported.

I realy miss the ability to see how many words or characters there are in a text box.
Maybe you could add this feature later on, it would help me immensly.

Are footnotes and endnotes currently possible (besides manually creating them, of course)? I haven't found them so far.
If not, this is a feature that I think would be widely used. I suspect it may take some time to get right if it is not yet under development, so I would understand if it is not a day-1 feature.

    Hi pethr
Our bleed is quite basic at the moment and does not include a bleed view but a far more advance version should be available at some point before it is released.
You can clip object to the edge of the page instead f showing them go over by going to View > View Mode and enabling Clip to Canvas

We will be displaying bleed in the main view in an update 'real soon'. Guides and snapping will come at the same time or shortly after.
