Can't edit margins in Guides Manager (1.7.0.367)
MCFC_4Heatons replied to Abernethy's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
I'm looking at the date of some of these posts and I'm still seeing this same issue in the latest version of Affinity Designer, is there any way round this other than having to create guides manually which is a real pain- 3 replies

Hello - I just sent file - just a simple rectangle with bitmap fill exported to SVG format from Affinity Designer. Try importing into Figma and you'll see the issue - Yers you can rasterize everthing but that defeats the object of being able to do any minir tweaks once a design is imported into Figma or if you are sharing with a clinet they will likely ask for a small tweak on the spot so retaining maximum editability is a must.

Import plugin in Figma
MCFC_4Heatons replied to Andrea Baccolini's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
Quick update for cleaner import of SVGs exported from designer into Figma make sure 'flatten transforms' and 'use tile patterns' are checked in SVG export settings - seems to result in a much tidier affair when importing into Figma although and bitmap fills are still lost -
This is just a small thing, but it irritates the hell out of me When I select a shape for example and go to the fill options there's no bitmap fill option only solid or gradient fill options, so if I want bitmap fill, I then have to go to the tools select the fill tool or use the shortcut key and then go back to the context toolbar fill options. Why is it done like that, is there a reason - it just seems counter-intuitive even though its just the smallest of things...

Import plugin in Figma
MCFC_4Heatons replied to Andrea Baccolini's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
I've been doing some testing today and there's quite a loing way to go to get full interpolation between Affinity Designer and Figma. A few things I noticed (assuming there isn't a setting I've overlooked): Affinity Designer outputs rectangles to SVG as paths - if outputted as <rect> you can use attribute rx to specifiy rounded corners. In theory that should make it easier to retain rounded corner editability and import into Figma as a rectangle which would be very handy. If you import an SVG into Figma exported from Affinity Designer that includes shapes or vectors with pattern fills you get weird results (patterned filled objects are resized to 1x1px and positioned to 0,0 on the canvas in the tests I did). The last issue was when I imported an SVG into Figma exported from Designer I eneded up with a lot of extra groups and sub-groups for some reason, in more complex deisgns that will make everything a complete nightmare. When esporting to SVG from Designer you can reduce thenumber of layer groups by checking 'flatten transforms'. I reported to Figma as well and hope for some better compatbiltiy in the future. To use the best features of Figma we need to retain maximum editability of designs so when presenting to a client we can do tweaks on the fly in the front of them. I'm not claiming to be any eport on the SVG format but the SVGs exported from Designer do seem bloated. -
Hello, Anyone got any experience of importing SVGs from Designer into Figma or using copy and paste from Designer to Figma? I can import a mockup created in designer into Figma with drag and drop, the only problem I have encountered is I seem lose pattern (bitmap) fills. Anyone know if is possible to retain pattern fills wehn importinn the SVG into Figma? In Designer preferences I have 'copy as SVG' selected but when I copy and paste from Designer to Figma everything is pasted as a bitmap. Thanks

Import plugin in Figma
MCFC_4Heatons replied to Andrea Baccolini's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
I personally think this would be a great idea - Figma is getting a lot of attention and some kind of collaberation between Affinity and Figma or the abiltiy to import designer files into figma and retain as much editability as possible would be brilliant. Also I think both Figma and Affinity would benefit. -
All these 'solutions' are workarounds - can the Affinity Designer devs please just look at Adobe Fireworks, these may seem like trivial thiings buts its so infuriating when these little things are made difficult. I've been playing aorund with Affinity Designer and aa long time user of Fireworks the lack of some simple functions to crop and resize canvas is frustrating. In Fireworks: edit > crop document (crops document to current selection) modify > canvas > trim canvas (trims canvas to all objects modify > canvas > fit canvas (fits canvas to all objects - used when objects are outside te bounds of the canvas) I can see in Photo there is an option document > clip canvas

Can anyone share the v17 installer? I bought Portrait Pro Studio v18 - obviously doesn't work in Affinity Photo and have found Anthropics to not be very helpful (they haven't replied as of yet to my request for the v17 installer) and when I login to my account I only have the option of downloading v18. Thanks
-
We have all three and have no problem paying for them, we have little to no real need for Publsher itself, bought purely for the studio link feature to combine Designer and Photo features - the downside is if we want to use a third party photoshop plugin we still have to do > edit in Photo For mockups/ui design it definately needs a full presentation mode or some feature to help share designs with clients

I just purchased v18 of Portrait Pro Studio a few days ago for Windows - I sent a report request to Anthropics and asked for the v17 installer as v18 does not work as plugin inside Afinnity Photo. Their reply was simple 'we do not support Affinity Photo'. Shame as I understand it both companies are based in England too and I am sure that Photoshop is going to haemorrhage customers right, left and center over the next few years as Photoshop is looking like a dinosaur and Adobe is not exactly customer friendly. BTW, Are you on Windows or Mac ?

Ok, after trial and error I have worked out that the bevel/emboss effect in Affinity results in exported PSD with 'maintain editability' setting to be rasterised. Strangley though if I create a file in Photoshop and use apply the bevel/emboss effect to a layer or shape for example then save to PSD, when I open the PSD in Affinity it includes the editable bevel/emboss effect.

When exporting from Affinity Photo to PSD format with the maintain editability option checked, everything gets rasterized and fills, borders, non-destructive effects are all lost ... Yet I can open a PSD created in Photoshop in Affinity Photo and all the effects and editablility are retained? Thanks

.... Just to add also, as a long-time Fireworks user, you can't underestimate how useful these option are in Fireworks, especially if you're creating mockups: Crops selected bitmap (crops the slection only and doesn't affect canavs size) Crop document (crops canvas to the selection) Trim canvas (similair to crop document) Fit canvas (resizes canvas to fit all layers, including objects outside of the document area) Used these a zillion times over the years - so simple, yet really useful. Something to think about for Photo and Designer maybe?

I've just been playing aorund with Affinity Photo and to me the crop tools is a bit unintuitive - Once I have cropped I have already decided how and which area to crop and the idea of accidently dragging the cropped image area is a bit weird. The only thing I can see is the raterize and trim option in the layers panel. Compard to the tools I'm used to I do find it confusing. No, I don't want to use the marquee tool either ...

Hello, Forgive me if any of these are already in Designer, is it possible or are there plans to add: 1) Full screen presentation mode for presenting mockups to clients 2) Pages - I know we have artboards - but we're old school and still like pages :) 3) Add hyperlinks so when in presentation mode we can use basic linking to click between different pages or artboards.
