  1. Hi Old Bruce, that's a nice workaround, still would be nice to have it as a feature.
  2. Hi, it would be nice if it was possible to only align the first line of a paragraph with the baseline geid (use case: Headlines and quotes that need a line height that is different than the baseline grid).
  3. I stand by that -- while it is a substancial increase in size, neither is 300 MB "massive" (the term is obviously subjective) nor inexplainable for this kind of project. It's good for the thread starter if they can squeeze it back to a smaller size in Acrobat without quality loss, but I personally would not think twice about sending a file this size to any printer.
  4. My assumption was that, with the colour space conversion unticked, the images would have been saved in their original format, maybe RGB or (if it's a bug) even Greyscale. Your explanation of everything being upscaled to 32bit definitely explains the file size. My other argument was / is that 300 MB for a 44 page brochure is not unusual, depending on the amount and size of the images (if you have a full page image in 375dpi exporting it as RGB or CMYK and a different bitrate will definitely make a substations difference).
  5. 167 -> 300 doesn't sound too bad, that's not MASSIVE, considering it's 375dpi and CMYK in production quality. What kind of project is it? A book, catalogue, brochure? How many pages? How many images? How big are the images (full page?)? As Gabe said, posting the original file will help. I'm happy to take a look and experiment with it to see, where the PDF size is coming from and what you could do to reduce it.
  6. Symbols work when you have Designer installed and switch to the Designer Persona ... unfortunately you have to stay in that Persona to use symbols. One of my most common use cases is that I have small icons ("special price", "new!", "Sale!" and such) that I need to pin into my textflow. With the current implementation that doesn't work: Even if I create a symbol in Designer Persona, switch back to Publisher and start copy-pasting and pinning the symbol, the symbol-ness gets lost and I end up with many objects that need to be changed manually, should I need to adjust them. Very cumbersome.
  7. Oh, I wasn't aware of that ... when I bought my 2017 last year, I saw the "2020", but the small print said "1 year" in brackets, so I assumed It was a subscription. Gonna go scouting to see if I find a perpetual license, now I know it exists. Thanks for the info, Joachim.
  8. You can still get a boxed edition of Acrobat Pro 2017 as a one-time-buy from amazon and eBay -- It's not super-current, but works perfectly fine for everything regarding printed matters and that's, at least for me, a perfect addition to the Affinity trio.
  9. Thanks for the new beta. Any news about a fix for search and replace?
  10. Can confirm that Search & Replace is still broken in 1.9.0.801 -- both normal and regular expressions.
  11. Sorry, I accidentally selected and quoted from your quote instead of the original ... I know you'd never say something like this. Changed it and added an short explanation. 🐵
  12. Uuuuuuuh, that hurts. Please. Don't! In my opinion and experience, it's always advisable to work in the colourspace that you want to use for your output.
  13. I would really like for all Data Merge related stuff, including the new tool on the toolbar, in one single Studio Panel / Palette. I know it goes against the current user interface habits, and I really LOVE the idea of collating different files and having them all ready to use in one single "Fields" palette. However, as it is now, the Data Merge feels like peppered all over the interface: To set it up and use it, I need to look for it's features in three different places (toolbar, fields panel and data merge panel and I'm not sure if I actually discovered everything yet). Bringing it together in one place would make it much easier to learn, explore and use it. If and when it get's powerful enough (XML, attaching tags / rows / columns to text and character styles, doing calculations, using formatted source data in the text flow ...), maybe even move it in it's own Persona?
  14. I just had an idea on how to implement a 'new kind of page spreads' if and when Serif decides to do it at some point: It would be fantastic if a Designer file with numbered artboards could be used as 'template' for page spreads — this way the number of pages would be more or less unlimited and even the page order and arrangement could be set freely — think an eight page brochure that exports in the correct page order (1,2,3...) when exported as single pages, but properly layed out (8,1-2,7) when exporting spreads. Think rearranging page spreads by simply 'linking' to a different Designer template. Think differently sized pages automatically arranged to create a complicatedly folded leaflet or a magazine covers with folded in pages. Think of it as 'master pages for master pages'. You would set up a Designer document with the apropriate amount of artboards, mark them as 'spreadboards'' (or something similar that sounds less naff), give each a number and select this Designer file as 'Spread template' in Publisher — when you add new pages the page layout would refer to the Designer file and add pages according to which numbered 'spreadboard' comes next, rotating through all artboards, starting by number one again, when you add more pages. Only downside is that you wouldn't be able to change the page sizes manually in Publisher — you'd need to refer back to the Designer file for editing. Lastly, depending on if it's wise to allow for objects on the templates, you could even create specific printers marks or other page background assets in the Designer file to be exported using the 'bleed' feature — this might have the potential to create headaches with the master pages (finding out if an object is on the master page or in the template file), but that is for Serif to figure out and for you to use responsibly (someone using these advanced featues can be considered experienced enough to decide wisely on where to put their objects).
  15. You're not alone. I do almost every export twice because of this ... There is no option for this at the moment, but setting ones own default has been suggested several times, so the programmers know about the wish.
  16. C'mon guys ... Affinity Designer is $50 and you have been getting large, free functionality updates since 2014(!!!). I don't think it would be fair to even ask for ANY special pricing or discount after getting THAT much for a small one-time price.
  17. Not my job -- I was just pointing out that you cannot prove or disprove anything with that link you posted and that the numbers in your statistic are very likely wrong. I don't have any other statistics nor am I interested. Why is that stuff so important to you? I for one am happy to have found something to replace a subscription with a nice software that does what I need for a fair price and I'm sure if it wasn't worth the effort for them, Serif wouldn't continue working on it.
  18. Agree. This statistic is not worth the paper it's not printed on. There is no indication of which countries or industries are included, nor what is considered a "company" or "using". The percentages are based on the amount of companies in THEIR LIST, not in any relation to any industry or companies in existence in a specific region or anything. It just says "25% of the companies we know of are using Creative Cloud", even watering down this, because everyone who uses PhotoShop (35%) ALSO uses ,Creative Cloud', unless these ,companies' are using a very old version which whoever made the stats wouldn't be able to track online ... looks like BS to me and I'm getting way to invested in thinking about this, time to go to bed. Oh ... the website states that this is the "number of companies we have found using", my guess is they weren't searching very hard ... because I (a not very well connected freelancer) know of four companies that use Affinity Photo for professional work and I haven't even been looking. There is also a good number of companies offering brushes, templates and such for Photo so I assume they are "using" it too. Lastly, while I am writing this post, there are 408 users active in this forum (midnight in the UK) and I'm sure a good part of them are business users too. Nighty-night.
  19. If you're serious about this question, please know that it was a joke, Uncle Bob is a nice guy but he doesn't know sh** about making brochures. Also, try googling "BrochureMaker" as one word, that gives you better results. 😂
  20. You're crazy (asked for it, sorry), but the suggestion is solid and I'm definitely going to take a closer look at Uncle Bob's BrochureMaker now -- if it handles PDFs better than Publisher, it's probably the dream software I've been looking for all my life and Uncle Bob is known for his reliable products. ;o)
  21. @user099 Is there a specific reason why you are so determined to be negative? You got several answers to your question, some more friendly than others, but it seems you don't WANT to understand that there ARE different ways to buy and update your software and continue moaning and complaining about something that simply is not the way you portray / understand it.
  22. Both macOs/iOs and Windows have viewers that display PDFs correctly built in, the secret to create a reliable preview must be hidden somewhere in both systems.
