  1. With CTRL+drag any object I can create easily a copy of the original object. With CTRL+rotate this does not work the same way. The object get's just rotated, but not copied. Is it meant to work that way? Cheers, d.
  2. I tried several programs (Photoshop, LibreOffice, Adobe Bridge, Firefox, VLC, Adobe Dreamweaver). Only the last one made the external drives spin up, too. This is not something that bothers me not at all. I just thought it is perhaps worth mentioning :) d.
  3. Could this be related to this? Quote from current release notes: "Known Issues When the Effects Panel is open and visible, performance is severely affected when typing or navigating through history. Workaround: ensure that the Effects Panel isn't visible."
  4. OK, I see. But what makes the external drives spin up together with the startup of AD? d.
  5. It doesn't matter wether I edit the secondly opened document or not. I usually close AD by clicking on the top right X of the main window. I tried File > Exit and it behaves the same. d.
  6. OK, it seems to be possible that are reasons to look for free space. I understand. After clicking the AD icon the splash screen stays for 28 seconds. Then the cursor changes to an hourglass and it takes another (quick) three seconds until the AD window is fully visible. Edit: regular starting time of AD is about 11 seconds. I add that it is more than one external drive and I do not blame Serif for my external memory usage ;) I'll test this with other programs to see if they behave the same. d.
  7. I notice since the beginning of my beta testing that when I start AD all of my external USB-harddiscs start spinning up. But AD is installed on my internal C: drive and the document to open is stored on my internal D: drive. All fonts are located on either C: or D: drive. When I start AD with no external USB-harddiscs connected there is no problem at all. Since the spinning up of the harddrives delays the start of AD considerably I wonder why this might happen? Thank you. d.
  8. At the moment AD opens with one file that I am working on opened. Then I open another file and close AD. When I start AD again it again opens only the first file as before. It seems to forget about the second open file. Is this due to the wording of the setting "Reopen document on startup" in preferences? Does it explicitly mean it will open only one document? d.
  9. I think the way how brush width, opacity, flow, etc. are changed could be improved. In Pixel Persona and e.g. the Paint Brush tool selected, hitting ENTER should jump into the width field so that I can instantly type in a different size. There could be modifier keys to ENTER to jump into the other available fields as well. E.g. CTRL+ENTER changes the opacity. Once the sliders of opacity, flow and hardness are visible, hitting ENTER now jumsp into the value field. I'd rather see the slider close and finish the change and I can immediately go back to painting. The same applies to all other brush like tools, like selection brush or even the vector brush tool. What do you think? d.
  10. Rather at the bottom of the page there is a link to pre-order the Surface Studio. Prices range from $ 2999,00 through $ 4199,00 :o At least there is also an option to add this 'thing' to your wishlist :) It will be interesting to see tests of Surface Studio and it's market performance... d.
  11. It was a stub in the dark from my side. But, at least, Mark can confirm the lag and I am sure it will be fixed soon. d.
  12. Hi arechsteiner, I was curious how AD performs with your receipe on my computer (see specs below). To my surprise I did not encounter any delay when typing wildly. I am not sure what the cause is. Are you aware that there are some performance settings to try out? Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance and try altering some of these. In the beginning of my beta test I encountered a major performance improvement by selecting a different "Renderer" (the dropdown box at the bottom of the window). I hope this helps. d.
  13. Also make sure you CTRL click on the layer names and not the layer thumbnails. CTRL clicking on the thumbnail will select the layer's content as a pixel selection :) You can as well click on the area left to the layer name or the area between the layer name and the checkbox at the right side. d.
  14. Hi Jon, in Windows Explorer's adress field simply type in "%temp%" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Explorer will then jump to the correct location on your harddrive. There you could look for the folder "AffinityThumbnailHandler". I hope this helps. d.
  15. I am not sure about this. This image from Wikipedia shows an 'Alt Gr' key next to the space bar. But I have seen US keyboards with just an 'Alt' key right to the space bar, too. The backslash key seems to have it's seperate key next to backspace (top right). Cheers, d.
  16. Hi Chris, thanks for the explanation. I'll play with it some more to fully understand this. Good to know about the adjustment layer being a mask in itself. I've seen this befor but had forgotten :) d.
  17. I am trying to apply an adjustment to only parts of a photo by adding a pixel mask to the adjustment layer. 1st pass which works as expected: Create new empty document. Place any photo. Create an adjustment layer above the photo (e.g. Levels) and set to obvious changes, to see the effect clearly. Add a mask layer to above adjustment layer by using the icon at the bottom of the Layers palette. Switch to Pixel Persona and paint on the mask with a black and soft brush on the mask. Result: The black brush masks away the effect of the adjustment layer. 2nd pass which does NOT work as expected: Create new empty document. Place any photo. Create an adjustment layer above the photo (e.g. Levels) and set to obvious changes, to see the effect clearly. Add a PIXEL LAYER ABOVE the adjustment layer by using the icon at the bottom of the Layers palette. Switch to Pixel Persona and paint on the PIXEL LAYER with a black and soft brush on the mask. Right click on the pixel layer and select "Mask to Below". Result: The adjustment layer has a mask but BLACK COLOR REVEALS AND WHITE COLER CONCEALS the effect of it. Sorry for the lengthy explanation. I tried to make it as simple as possible :) d.
  18. Hi Matej, thanks for the video. I followed it exactly and even set my screen layout (palettes) the same. I can draw a rectangle and add a vibrance adjustment with no problem. It just works. Do you have a chance to try it on a different computer? d.
  19. Hi diopside, wellcome to the forum. From what I have read Serif is very serious about feature parity between the Mac and the Windows editions. See one post by the moderators here. Cheers, d.
  20. Hi Matej, I just tried this on one of my documents and was able to add any adjustment with no problem. I then created a new document with just one sqare vector object with fill color. Adding any adjustment did not crash AD, either. Would you mind to give a more detailed "recipe"? Cheers, d.
  21. Hi Jonopen, I just tried this with Windows Explorer and Freecommander on my machine. All .afdesign thumbnails display with no problem with their file's content. I know this is of small help and I sincerely hope you and the AD team can eventually track this down :) d.
