  1. Thanks for both explications and I can understand the reasoning and, now that it's been explained, it works fine and I'll soon get used to it.
  2. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Mine is a bit different to your problem though. I click on any adjustment and it shows the change choices but no adjustment box. I have to click on one of the change choices which then brings up the adjustment box, already with the change I've clicked on, even though I don't want it! I then have to click on reset (if I don't want the adjustment) to put it back to normal so that I can then edit. Once editing is finished with this particular adjustment I have to closed the edit box and then click on the adjustment to close that. Choosing another adjustment doesn't close that adjustment box as before and it's very easy to end up with a slew of open adjustments. Lots more unnecessary work!
  3. Well, I've just updated to the 1.8.6 Affinity Photo and all presets work without a single fault. As even the latest 1.9 beta still does nothing for me with presets I've gone back to 1.8.6 and will now wait for the public update to 1.9 and hope that it's solved, even though I realise I'm in a minority for whom presets don't work.
  4. Thanks to you too. I'll certainly see what happens. Bizarre that it happens to me but I'm sure there's probably a simple reason that I've not found out yet!
  5. I think it must be with both Affinity Beta and Big Sur beta, although Adjustments work with Affinity 1.8.4 and Big Sur a lot of the time, depending on which Adjustment. It just seems that I'm the only one with this problem!
  6. It's really not worth doing a video because it happens every time and on every adjustment. I'm of course talking of Adjustments next to Layers in the Studio. The different presets show under the Adjustments, including one of my own (well, Ezra Anderson's actually) in B&W. However there is no response from any of them when I click on them, either before actually opening the Adjustment or after. Just once in a blue moon a preset will respond but it's only happened about 4 times. When I click on the adjustment itself it opens with the default preset and that's it, I can't change it to one of the others.
  7. Great. I was worrying that it was something that I'd badly installed or done wrong! Look forward to a future Beta then
  8. Just sorry I didn't give you all the details the first time! Would have saved you more work.
  9. All JPEG edits. Hardly ever do RAW. So it's all in the Photo persona.
  10. Not sure what Separated mode was and never knew it existed until looking it up in help just now! No, never used it that way. I've exported a photo from Photos and imported it into the stand alone Affinity. I've also chosen a photo in Photos with the edit option (my normal way of woking) and opened it with "External Editors" in Photos as that's the only way of getting Photos to accept the changes when saved from Affinity.
  11. Sorry, should have been more specific. Big Sur latest Beta on a MacBook Pro (mid 2014). A Logitech cordless mouse but mostly the track pad on the MacBook. It also doesn't work with my Wacom Intuos Pro tablet.
  12. I've just started trying to use Adjustments presets but can't for the life of me get anything apart from the Default with the rare exception when I can actually click on the one I want. This happens for me both in the regular and Beta versions.
  13. I have already posted twice before that I've had no problems in Apple Photos editing and saving edits back with 1.7 (not tried 1.8 yet) by using this workaround. Download "External Editors" (free and out of date but it works) from the AppStore. Enable both that and Affinity in the System Preferences/Extensions and then, when you want to edit a photo in Photos, Select External Editors in the photo edit box and THEN Affinity after that. By doing it this way you can edit, and every photo (at least for me) is saved back to Photos with all changes and no hassle whatsoever.
  14. I've posted before that I've found a workaround for saving back to Photos in Catalina but I'll post it again. Go to the App Store and download External Editors for Photos. It's free and hasn’t been updated for ages but I can assure you that it works. Once it's installed put it at the top of your edit list for Photos Edit, as well as having Affinity in the edit list too. However don't select Affinity there but click on External Editors and choose Affinity from inside that box. Then edit as much as you want and I guarantee that every photo will be saved back to Photos complete with all your edits.
  15. I seem to have found the way to do it. Not sure if it works with 1.7.2 as I only tried it by luck having installed 1.7.3 last night. Select the photo you want to edit (not as thumbnail but enlarged) and click edit top right. Then the three dot edit button and I select "External Editors". You will have to have installed the free to download programme on the AppStore called "External Editors for Photos" which hasn't been upgraded for three years now but it still works. When you click on that it brings up a list of all the editors that you've allowed in System Preferences and you choose Affinity, do the edit and Save at the end and all the changes are accepted in Photos. It also works with Luminar.
  16. That's the way I always edited my photos anyway. However I've just tried the right click and selected edit with Affinity Photo (or Cmd+Rtn) and it works a treat thanks. Never even knew that method existed! You live and learn all the time in life, so thanks for the help.
  17. Me neither. It's not only Affinity photo that is affected though as it's the same with all the Skylum photo editing programmes.
  18. Not with Catalina they aren't. I get "Unable to save changes for edit in Affinity Photo". I know Catalina is in Beta but it's worth letting you know, although you probably already do!
  19. I think you have to deselect 1.6 (Affinity Photo) in Settings/Extensions/Photo and then select 1.7 (Affinity Photo Beta). At least, that's how it works for me.
  20. Yes, I've quickly gone back to the dark theme because I find it much easier in every sense.

  22. I did have this problem but only with Fuji X-Pro2 RAW files. They now open fine since the last RAW camera update, but I've never had a problem with JPEGs from Apple photos opening. Latest betas of both programmes running.
  23. It doesn't support Fuji X-Pro2 RAW unfortunately :-( At least not with the beta of Sierra. It soaks up the memory and then crashes every time. Richard
  24. You can, or at least, I can. I've installed "External Editors" (free) and also the extensions of various programmes such as Affinity, ON1, Intensify and Tonality because all my photos are in Photos. They are then selected and ticked in System Preferences/Extensions So I can select a photo in Photos, pick Edit and then choose extensions at the bottom of the edit menu and all the programmes are there ready to be used. If External Editors is used then it opens the photo in Affinity when I choose it and it's just a matter of using the export persona when it's finished which does of course mean that you have to export the adjusted picture into photos as it doesn't overwrite the one you're editing. So you either keep the original and the newly edited one side by side or ditch the one you don't like in preference for the one you do!
