Like most here, I agree. +1 vote from me. I’ve seen so many variable fonts I want to buy licensing for but thankfully I checked if Affinity supports them or not before proceeding with the purchase. Variable font support needs to be there on both desktop and mobile platforms. It’s not like it’s an unavailable tool that I can find workarounds for. The use of these fonts can help in making our careers. For example, I find it quite unfortunate that I can’t use this beautiful variable font in any of my projects:

Beautiful font. Hope we'll get support for the variable fonts as soon as possible.

  2. I do some photography and see myself primarily as a hobby photographer. The photo editing programs I use are mainly Affinity Photo 2, Capture One 23, On1 NoNoise AI 2023 and an older version of Niks Collection (pre-DxO).

Now my old computer, a MacBook Pro from 2012, has become too tired and needs to be replaced with a new and fresh MacBook Pro. The question then is which one should I choose? Right now my choice is between a new MacBook Pro M2 Max, 12C 30GPU 32GB/1TB 14.2" (2023) and a new MacBook Pro M3 Pro, 12C, 18GPU, 36GB/1TB 14.2" (2023).

I will not edit film or anything like that, but only edit images, write texts (Scrivener, Nisus Writer Pro, Mellel), but also use (in addition to previously listed image editing programs) programs such as Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher.

When it comes to work with image editing programs, is it the new M3 processor that is preferable despite having only 18GPUs or is it the "older" M2 Max processor that is preferable with its 30GPUs. Does anyone know if any of the above image editing programs benefit from more GPU cores or if these programs will benefit more from the new M3 processor (not Max but Pro)?

The amount of RAM is more or less the same. 32 GB for the M2 Max and 36 GB for the M3 Pro, so I guess it's pretty similar (unless the M3 processor has better memory management) in performance. The price is more or less the same, with a small, small advantage for the M2.

Which computer would you recommend for the Affinity Photo2, Designer 2, and Publisher 2?

Honestly, I wish they had never introduced these folders.

Many people no longer use them and instead create their own folder structures that they control especially when you access your work on all three platforms.

With the changes to Save and Save As functionality to allow direct browsing into the filing system, the same way the desktop apps work, means that these iPad folders are no longer really needed and neither is the default save location under preferences.

I can personally attest to this….as I suffered through trying to correct this small annoyance, and had drastic outcomes…but with a single simple solution to the after effect of it all…and can honestly say- don’t waste your time worrying about it.
Just create and Name new folders. ✌️

That may be the best solution to the problem. Thanks for the advice.

  4. I have had the same problem with the Publisher folder for the last 2/3 years, ever since I unfortunately installed a beta version of Affinity Publisher years ago. To bad that Serif have not provided a solution yet. Same goes for the wrong icons for the Affinity Designer folder.

Same here, I also had the issue with V1. Now that I’ve upgraded to V2 I deleted the folders associated with V1 and let the app generate new folders when I installed V2 then moved the files back in. This time I have a the new Designer Icon on it’s folder but the Photo folder is blank.

I know it’s not the end of the world but its helpful for quick identification.

I did the same, but I installed the V2 before I deleted the V1, so I even if I deleted all the old folders, I still got the same wrong icon on the new Designer folder. The Publisher icon still has the wrong name (Affinity Publisher Beta) and it seems to be impossible to change the name of the folder.

Hey team, first off thank you for the much needed UI improvements. I saw in the FAQs that migrating data on iPad is unavailable because of “App Sandboxing”. Totally get that but can you not build an update to Designer v1 that just allows you to “export all user data” to the iOS files app with fonts, brushes and any other imported data? That way you can migrate data a bit more easily into V2? You can of course do this with documents, but there is no way to export fonts and stuff once they have been imported.

I’ve been using designer on iPad for YEARs now and installed so many things. It’s going to take me weeks if I’m having to manually go through and reinstall everything again little by little.

    Agree.

  7. Still got the same problem. Got the same icon for both the Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. And I've got the folder connected to the Affinity Publisher named Affinity Publisher Beta. It seems to be impossibl to change the name and remove the »Beta» in the folder name.

I thought everything should fix itself after v.2 (still on macOS 10.15.7 since my MBP is from 2012).

I originally purchased the Mac version and no longer have a Mac but I have an iPad, is there anyway to use my current account without purchasing again?

Wait until next week before you buy any iPad version of the Affinity products. Their will be new version out by October 9th according to the announcement at the Affinity website earlier today.
