Kevin Jacobs reacted to [gawr-juhs] in Vector/pattern fill
Reading this thread, it appears that vector patterns still aren’t supported in Designer V2. Disappointing!
As an Illustrator user since version 1.0 – yes! I'm that old – and having worked as a designer at Aldus- the original owners of FreeHand – there are some basic concepts of vector drawing apps that I've grown up with. Being able to create and apply patterns within a document being one of those things.
I like to keep my designs live, and contain all the elements within one document. Having to export patterns as a PNG and then bring them back as a fill, is really clunky. I so wanted to fall in love with the new versions of these Affinity products, especially as the Shape Builder tool finally made an appearance in Designer. However it already feels like they're going to sit on my digital shelf for the next few years gathering dust.

Same. Add the basic features the community has been asking for since 2019, then I'll consider re-buying your software, Serif.
Honestly, I'm kinda happy that they're making some progress with releasing V2, but it does not meet expectations for a new release. It's definitely better than the radio silence we had for months (years?) though. But still, what I think Serif needs is to be more transparent with their community. Respond to posts more, let us know what features are in the works, and explain why some aren't and when they will be.
I think there should be some kind of "Patreon-like" monthly subscription where users that want to can fund the development of Affinity software, and get some perks for it - like the ability to vote on features. This would solve 2 problems - insufficient funding, because of their single-purchase model, and the community feeling left out of the development process. I think it would be pretty good for everyone all around.

I will hold off buying v2 until they give us Vector Patterns.

It also seems to me that the only way to see exactly where a guide is placed is to click and start dragging on it, which is, ironically, a drag. It's great in InDesign where guides are treated more like objects that can be selected, copied and pasted etc, so you can click on a guide and at the top it tells you the position and you can adjust it numerically.
I also miss being able to have guides that continue off onto the artboard.

This just needs to be a menu option like Illustrator – something like Object => Offset Path => <enter value>. So much faster than this method.

Kevin Jacobs got a reaction from Krustysimplex in Viewing and adding Guides to Pasteboard
I just got Affinity Designer. I 100% agree with you. When i was designing in Adobe Illustrator CC i mostly designed on the pasteboard before i placed my graphic on the art-board. I use the pasteboard as sort of my pallet to test things out, and design. Also it would be great if Affinity Designer can have the guide lines go past the art-board and for it to bee seen on the paste-board.
