Andro got a reaction from Raff in How to copy or cut a part of a path/curve???
That should not mater, the program should be able to do this no mater the user's methods.
2024 and still no way to copy and paste nodes... too sad I was ready to switch.

Lol, it's hilarious how Affinity doesn't care about this at all. Such a simple detail that makes all the difference and the only reason I use their software.

As an Affinity Forum Moderator / Staff Member, shouldn't you be filing these kind of things?
I really like Affinity but you have to admit this kind of issues are a real downer.
Copying and pasting nodes and segments is a must. Sorry but this has to get attended asap.

Andro got a reaction from pcote in How to delete one edge of shape?
Wow... this is impressive...
1. Convert to curves
2. Select Node 1
3. Break curve
4. Select Node 2
5. Break curve
Reall Affinity? I thought you wanted to compete with Adobe, just make edges selectable.
Illustrator sux but it allows edge and node select / delete... just make that possible.

Again: wow! Every time I try to do some thing trivial in Affinity Photo or Designer, I end up Googling how to do it, ending up on this forum, only to find out that such trivial things are just not possible. Not once or twice, but every - single - time I get stuck doing simple things, like indeed, copying one single letter within a complex compound path. Wouldn't even have to think about it about how to do it in Illustrator, completely straightforward.
I hate to break it to Affinity, but I'm going to take my loss on purchasing licenses for Photo, Designer and Publisher, and going back to the dark side. I truly hate Adobe and their greediness (Illustrator user since version 1.1 here, circa 1986), and their bloated software isn't even that good ever since they started hiring cheap engineers abroad. But they do have the basics covered, and don't create funky features no one needs or understands, like shown in this thread.
Affinity products have some really nice features, and I love the general snappiness of their suite. But they're not for professional use, period. I hope they will someday make it happen, but for now: totally fine if time is not of essence, but not suited for professional workflows with clients breathing down your neck.

Andro got a reaction from Frozen Death Knight in Cut & Paste Nodes / Segments
Hello. I just want to say that this beautiful software is almost unusable for me as it lacks the feature of being able to successfully edit: cut, copy or delete a shape's segment or a single node and being able to paste it into another.
At least 3 other threads in which the problem is stated:
The solutions provided are just a real hassle and no help at all while trying to keep an efficient workflow.
I believe this should really be of high concern to you. I don't know if you have designers among your staff but it would probably be wise to ask some of them how they work with shapes, specially coming from other programs many in which these features are easily available.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe implement that? is vital.

Yeah why can't we just copy paste nodes / edges?

Andro reacted to JET_Affinity in Allow node tool to select control points of shapes and text fields
It would not make sense to be able to marquee select (quote 1) the parameter handles of live shape objects (quote 3), because those handles do different things for different kinds of live shapes.
It's standard-fare in any drawing program that provides live shape objects with adjustable parameters to have to "break apart," "ungroup", "expand", "convert to path", etc., those objects before being able to directly manipulate their individual Bezier nodes and handles.
Again, I'm not enamored with Affinity's selection scheme either. I think it needs serious re-work, especially in regards to the overdone dependency upon bounding boxes. My complaint with the basic selection interface actually starts at the ground level question of why a drawing program needs two separate selection tools in the first place. (As a long-time FreeHand user, I know experientially that its single selection tool was both more efficient and more powerful than the now 'de facto standard' of having two separate selection tools, and all the caveats stemming from that. But that ship has, unfortunately, sailed.)
But the quotes above are what I'm reading your meaning from. Suppose, for example, the box object in your video were a live star object. It wouldn't make sense for a marquee selection to select enclosed nodes of a text frame, enclosed nodes of a basic path, and one of the parameter handles of the star object. Nor would it make sense for enclosed nodes of actual star-shaped path to be selected, because the positions of those nodes are programmatically determined by the parameter adjustments; you'd be "breaking" the behavior of the live object. That's why all programs with such constructs require you to deliberately de-construct them to more basic objects.
