Daniel Kuhlmann reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Publisher for macOS - 1.10.4 (inc 1.10.3)
We are pleased to announce an update for the macOS release of Affinity Publisher, version 1.10.4 (replacing 1.10.3)
(Note: 1.10.2 was an iPad only release)
The detailed changes in Affinity Publisher for MacOS 1.10.4 over the release build Affinity Publisher for macOS 1.10.1 are as follows:
Fixes & Improvements:
Optimised for new ProMotion 120hz screen, M1 Pro and M1 Max. Architecture changes when Metal compute acceleration is enabled to better support M1 Pro and M1 Max. Fixed document with 'Save History' failing to save after promoting a Group to a Layer. Fixed PSD import of Linear Burn blend mode being imported as Multiply. Vector import (SVG, IDML etc) can be created at incorrect size. Space incorrectly gets added to text on clipboard if you double click a word to highlight. Fixed bug when deleting multiple pinned objects at the same time. Placed .afphoto documents can cause redraw issues. PDF Passthrough could crash when rendering entire placed document. Positioning pins should not find frames that are not editable. Hyperlinks with 'MailTo' fail to export when containing a space. Miscellaneous stability updates arising from specific cases. Invalid URL hyperlinks prevent PDF export. Fixed crash on Monterey editing embedded documents Screen and UI corruption (in 1.10.3) on some desktops Resource manager display was sometimes incorrect Date & Time field format options not appearing. Help & localisation improvements. The improvements in 1.10 since 1.9 are listed in some detail in this 1.10.0 Publisher macOS update announcement
UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Publisher > About).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac App Store purchases and needs a product key).

Daniel Kuhlmann reacted to bogarguz in IMPORT/EXPORT Studio Presets
Dear Serif Team, CONGRATULATIONS !!! You are the best.
I just would like to tell a little suggestion for a feature that would be a great touch to your new Studio Presets; Import/Export Presets. I have a Laptop and a MacPro for working with the amazing Affinity Suite, Making several layouts for different kind of work, take me some time do to. And, repeating those in my Laptop, well, you know already the answer. It would be excellent to finish making my layout for different Studios in my MacPro and then to Export/Import them in my Laptop. You would say, well, it is just two computer, do it. How about for those places or designers who have many computers and employees? They will benefit a lot for having those Studio Presets exported and imported. It is just a suggestion. Thank you for your great Affinity Suite. Being willing to be part of another Beta work, -
Daniel Kuhlmann got a reaction from Krustysimplex in Include current eci.org color profiles
It would be great to have the current eci.org color profiles pre-installed with Publisher. Especially the eciCMYK (FOGRA 53): http://www.eci.org/en/colourstandards/workingcolorspaces
As a printer, we are often dealing with non-technical customers who are not able to install color profiles without further assistance. And for all tech-savvy users it would be convenient to have them available.

This beta is significant update from the 1.8 version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous or future versions of Affinity Publisher.

New Features and Improvements
We are still very early in the beta process for 1.9. We have additional features we expect to integrate over the next few weeks.
PDF Bookmarks
Bookmarks provide a listing of flagged content that are present within a PDF document.
Bookmarks can be added via the Anchor Panel or automatically generated from a Table of Contents.
PDF Passthrough
It is now possible to flag placed PDF files for PDF passthrough. When such a file is encountered during PDF export it can be embedded verbatim in the output PDF ensuring 100% fidelity.
PSD flattened image representation
When placing a PSD we now use the flattened bitmap representation in the file rather than interpreting the file content ourselves. This will generally give better results on output.
Convert Pixel Layer to Image Node / Picture Frame
It is now possible to convert a Pixel Layer to an Image or Picture Frame plus content.
Initial Text Baseline Advance
Text frames now support an ‘Initial Advance’ property. This can be helpful to keep text aligned with other page elements and ensure predictable consistent layout.
Path Text
Additional controls now make it possible to avoid flowing text onto both sides of a curve. Additionally it is now possible to hide overflowing Path Text if desired.
Configurable Bleed and Margin Guide Colours
The colours used for Bleed and Margin guides are configurable by the user and saved with the document.
---
Known Issues with New Features
The following lists some of the more important known issues we currently have with new the features:
- PDF Passthrough: Crash exporting specific PDF - If you have crashes exporting we would love to hear about them
- PDF Passthrough: Preflight warns of passthrough pdf when it is set to interpret. Some preflight checks drill into PDFs flagged for passthrough and report spurious errors.
- Convert Pixel Layer to Image Node: Converted image resources can end up with no name
- Path Text: Path text overflows on wrong side, hiding overflow hides all text

Installation of Software and Updates
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update. For the macOS release, in the application main menu there is an option "Check for Updates". Alternatively, you can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Updates are installed automatically (or manually by installing the new version over the old) Previous builds do not need uninstalling first. New installations of paid software downloaded from the Affinity Store requires a product key and email pair to use.
Software downloaded from the Mac App Store, Microsoft Store and iPad store do not require a product key and are updated through the relevant store:
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.
If you’ve purchased from the Pad Store— Your Affinity iPad apps should update automatically next time you run them. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them. If the automatic update does not happen for you, go to the iPad Store app and go to Updates. Once you’re there, tap near the top of the screen where it states 'Updates' and then hold, pull down and then release. This should manually refresh the updates page. However, don’t contact us if the updates are not available for you yet—Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world and this can take up to 24 hours.

Daniel Kuhlmann reacted to Leigh in PDF export: RGB images get converted to CMYK
Thanks for the feedback - happy to hear that RGB profiles are now being honoured.
If you could log the 16bit/8bit issue against the beta version, that would be great.

Daniel Kuhlmann got a reaction from Leigh in PDF export: RGB images get converted to CMYK
Thanks a lot, Leigh & team!
We really appreciate that you keep working on this despite Corona.
I can confirm that RGB color profiles are being respected during export now. ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB and sRGB have the correct profile in the exported PDF.
However, the bit depth is still not respected. When I export a 16bit RGB image that has neither been downsampled or cropped by Publisher, the PDF correctly includes a 16bit RGB image. If the image has been downsampled or cropped by Publisher, though, the PDF shows an 8bit RGB image.
Although there are not many use cases for 16bit images in PDFs, I assume that it will lead to possible confusion and errors if 16bit and 8bit images get unintentionally mixed, just depending on whether they were cropped in Publisher or not.
Should I post this issue in the beta forum or are we going to follow up in this thread?
Many thanks,
Daniel

Daniel Kuhlmann reacted to Leigh in PDF export: RGB images get converted to CMYK
Hi Daniel, I just wanted to let you know that we've released a new beta build today that should fix your issue with PDFs exporting RGB profiles to CMYK. Is it possible to give it a try to see if it resolves your issue?

Daniel Kuhlmann got a reaction from U. Dinser in Include current eci.org color profiles
