Psych got a reaction from Snapseed in Affinity Suite v2.0.4 on linux [ Wine ]
I'm getting mscoree.dll not found when running Photo v1 with ElementalWarrior's wine build. I suspect it has to do with dotnet not installing correctly as I get "there's a newer version already installed" message in the GUI installer. I just have no idea what to do. I tried winetricks --force as well.

"Removed "Windows Ink" option, and replaced with high precision WinTab support"
Does that mean I no longer need to enable Windows Ink in my drawing tablet settings? If so, that's great news, Windows Ink is so terrible.

    Thank you!

Thank you. I don't understand though, if I want the effect, I'd just leave the option checked, if I don't want it and uncheck it should stay unchecked. It's common sense...

Ah thanks. I've just checked and the bug report has been closed as by design but I've bumped it with your post anyway.

    Hello Chris B,
    yes, you were involved:
    I also found this thread:

I highly doubt this is by design. And if it is, it's a bad design choice.

Yes I just checked, it was set to WARP. I changed it to my graphics card and now it's much faster. Although it lags on 4K with some brushes but that's to be expected.

You shouldn't really be struggling with that size document and brush. Can you make sure you don't have your Renderer set to WARP in Preferences?

    Hey Hanu,
On macOS, we see no such lag (at least I don't) and this is due to Metal. Unfortunately, Windows doesn't have anything like this at the moment but we will be looking at Hardware Acceleration in the future which would likely sort this out.

Psych reacted to Rocketdrive in Designer and Photo brush engines
I’ve been using Photo for some time as my primary illustration and drawing tool. I always felt that the brush engine was not top notch, but I kept going because of the completeness and power of the app. I bought Designer for iPad right after it was published and was positively surprised that the brush engine for the pixel persona felt snappier than the one in Photo. I would like to assume that this upgraded experience is coming to Photo, too
I would also love to see a much improved brush speed on the desktop. It is strange, but brush strokes feel most sluggish on my Windows workstation, though in theory it should be up to four times faster - according to geekbench comparisons between the A10x and a Xeon E5-2680 v2. Affinity tells me that the brush engine is CPU bound, so I hope it can tap into all cores for best speed.

Thank you so much for the .ABR brushes fix! It was driving me crazy. I have a library of brushes that I couldn't import before and now I can.
I was also waiting for the tga file crash fix. Maybe in the next update?

We are pleased to announce an update for the Windows release of Affinity Photo, version 1.7.3
    Changes in this build
The changes in Affinity Photo for Windows 1.7.3 (over the last release Affinity Photo 1.7.2) are as follows:
    Fixes
Fixed masks not working in a group of adjustments. Fixed Minimum Blur live filter constantly resetting Radius slider to zero when changing other values. Fixed failure to import .ABR brushes. Fixed PSD import crash (with embedded ICC profiles with non-ASCII names). Fixed Transform panel behaviour when transforming a sheared object with aspect lock. Fixed import of layered TIFF sporadically failing to load text layers. Fixed crash when install location contains a non-ASCII character. Fixed crash at startup (due to initialising crash reporter). Updated translations. Earlier changes and fixes in 1.7.x since 1.6 (including the new 1.7 features) are listed in some detail in this earlier update announcement.
This thread is for commenting on this announcement. Please do not post bugs or problems that you find when using this version of the software in this thread, instead make a new thread in the Photo Bugs on Windows section and questions about usage go in the Desktop Questions forum.
UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Photo).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Photo for Windows) can be downloaded from this link. (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

just wondering if i'm the only one missing a context menu to quickly pick brushes right on the canvas, adjust their parameters and so on instead of having to dig around in the interface for the settings in the context toolbar and the brushes palette.

there's of course hotkeys to change brush parameters but i find quite often that a little more visual guidance is really handy, especially when you're not just changing brush radius all the time.

example from photoshop: quick access to brush library and basic brush settings on sliders

here's a nifty one from zbrush (more of a 3D program) that includes links to a lot more options probably irrelevant to a 2D program but most notably has a mini color selector which i think would be really handy (especially with a little palette of color swatches that mirror the swatches tab).

would be happy to see something like this pop up in photo at some point. :)

    Installation of Software and Updates
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update. For the macOS release, in the application main menu there is an option "Check for Updates". Alternatively, you can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Updates are installed automatically (or manually by installing the new version over the old) Previous builds do not need uninstalling first. New installations of paid software downloaded from the Affinity Store requires a product key and email pair to use.
Software downloaded from the Mac App Store, Microsoft Store and iPad store do not require a product key and are updated through the relevant store:
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Pad Store— Your Affinity iPad apps should update automatically next time you run them. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them. If the automatic update does not happen for you, go to the iPad Store app and go to Updates. Once you’re there, tap near the top of the screen where it states 'Updates' and then hold, pull down and then release. This should manually refresh the updates page. However, don’t contact us if the updates are not available for you yet—Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world and this can take up to 24 hours.

Yep its same issue, I think this isnt something trivial for them to solve, because it taken so long, maybe they have to rewrite some big chunk of their code handling this (maybe thats the price to pay if you base bitmap software on vector one (Affinity Designer) and want to share same/similar core).
This will probably take few years to solve not months, If you can use Photoshop or freeware GIMP meanwhile. (GIMP dont have non-destructive editing yet) but paid Affinity Photo cant handle this filesize yet.
