Several bugs with Laptop + double screen + tablet

Hi,

I'm newbie with Affinity photo. Like the soft but since I get the software, i've got several bugs with difference tools or actions... The worst is those bugs are very often, sometimes already when i start a new document.

1/ the arrow tool (V) : i cannot move the layer or resize it or rotate.

2/ the brush tool : it make straight line even if i draw a circle

3/ Eraser tool : same as the brush tool

4/ "free selection" tool, the lasso in French : it doesnt make selection at all

5/ transparence with a layer : when i change the tranparence of a layer at any %, the layer become transparent but when i select another layer it come back at 100%.

I made a video for each problem. Except for the transparence, when i start the video capture, transparency works...

I work with 2 screens on a laptop and a wacom intuos 3, i made different tests but even if i stay on 1 screen i have those problems. If I switch on another window (internet, file etc) sometimes the problem desappears... but it comes back quickly...

I dont know what to do...
Sorry if my english is not perfect... hope you'll understand all the issues.

Thanks

Only the last two screen recordings would play on my device.  The third example you were trying to make a section on the wrong layer and the fourth screen recording layers were not shown.  Maybe wrong layer or layer needed to be rasterized.

Hi Cecil,

Thanks for the reply!

Sorry for the videos unplayed...

About the "lasso", no need to be on the good layer to create selection... i am on a layer, it's enough but as you can see, the tool doesnt work... normally i can create a free selection on a blank layer.

About the last video, same, no need to see the layer window... as you can see the image is selected, it means the layer is selected and when i tried to move or resize it, nothing happen...

Here again the 2 first videos : brush tool and eraser tool.

Thanks

Try making the first video, a child layer, drag down to bottom layer until double blue lines release. It should of set the bottom layer.  I see that you were using brush, black . Now paint on child layer.

Hey M3rØj,

A lot of these issues are being caused by a compatibility issue with Windows Ink. Unfortunately, Windows Ink and Affinity do not work very well together, but this is something we fully intend on resolving. For now, I would suggest disabling Windows Ink from the Wacom interface. The issues this incompatibility are causing are points 2, 3 and likely 4. It may affect point 1 but we should disable Windows Ink and readdress this to be sure.

As for point 5, I cannot reproduce this at all. It may be worth trying it once Windows Ink is disabled but if that doesn't fix it, we will have to do some more investigating.

Hi Chris,

I tried your tips. So far the bugs are gone!! No more problem with transparency or Lasso or Arrow. There is still a small glitch with the brush tool : when i make a circle, first it make straight line and then the circle.

But big update for me!! no need to change window or restart the soft all the time.

Thanks a lot!

Hm, that looks pretty bad! Can you go to Preferences > Tools and make sure 'High precision tablet input' isn't enabled. I'm not sure if that's it but I haven't seen this issue for a while and that setting I asked you to disable can cause a delay as it takes extra time for accuracy. I think it's being removed at some point.

Hey M3rØj,

Right, I've just tried this with 3 different tablets and I don't even know how many different pens and I cannot reproduce it. I can get a slightly straight line at the start of drawing a circle but it still looks like a circle when I'm done. Yours look like a letter 'e'.

I've matched your settings too from the screenshot you supplied so I'm at a bit of a loss. The last thing we can try (in case you've been changing any of the settings in preferences) is to perform a reset on the app. You can do this safely by navigating to %AppData%\Affinity\Photo\ and then rename the 1.0 folder to 1.1. This will reset the app but your old settings will be retained in the 1.0 folder in case we need to reload anything.
