Affinity Publisher took over my Canon raw files

Recommended Posts

Background: I have Designer, Photo and Publisher installed in that order over the last few weeks.

I was setting up my raw workflow today and when I double clicked on a Canon raw file I found that it opened the .CR2 files in Publisher. They opened fine but I reset them to Photo as that seems to make more sense.

My questions for support and those in the know are:

1. Should I be opening them in Publisher?

2. Does Publisher have all the same abilities for handling raw as Photo does?

3. Is there some future  enhancement or reason to have these files opened by Publisher instead of Photo?

I'm especially curious about question  #2

Thanks.

1: No. You just get a lesser version of your picture than if you fully process them in Photo first.

2: No.

3: No. Other than the fact that we can open them and it would be more trouble to write code which would prevent that from happening without screwing up other import functions.

Further to number 2 Photo can develop the RAW format, Publisher can just display the image and there can be some work done on it but Photo is much better.

Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

It would seem that Publisher, as the last one installed has hijacked your raw file opening. You should be able to change the default program to open raw in your Operating System. In Windows, look for 'Default Programs'. In Macs ...?

On a Mac,
Go to one of your RAW files in Finder.
Right Click on it, choose 'Get Info…'
In the Info panel that opens, go down to 'Open With' and change it to 'Affinity Photo'.
Bellow the 'Open With' field there is a button marked 'Change All...' Click that and your Mac will now associate that file type with Affinity Photo.
