johnhardy Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 I am trying to follow the instructions on page https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlmA1qicXN0 Remove Background from a Complex image The video indicates select the Free hand Selection tool and Type as Polyganal. On the video I can see the line created also a return line to the begining. However when I try to create a Polygon the return line does not exist. When I try to finish the line the polygon disappears. Can anyone say where I may be going wrong please? Quote
Staff Lee D Posted May 30, 2019 Staff Posted May 30, 2019 After selecting the Freehand Tool, check the Context Toolbar to see if New is selected. Also check to see if the correct layer you want to base the selection on is highlighted on the Layers panel. Quote
johnhardy Posted May 30, 2019 Author Posted May 30, 2019 Thanks Lee I'm not sure where I was going wrong but I seem to be getting on better now! Cheers John Quote

I think the "return line" was how the Tool used to work and that is an old video made when that version of the Tool was still in place. It effectively made your selection a closed selection from the start and you just expanded it to encase whatever you wanted selected. With the current version of the Tool you have to manually close the selection by clicking on your starting point once you have finished selecting what you want selected. I've just tested this with both versions, 1.6 and the current Beta RC-2. So long as you're close to your starting point, you can double-click and it will close the selection. adirusf and carl123 1 1 Quote Affinity Photo 2.5..; Affinity Designer 2.5..; Affinity Publisher 2.5..; Affinity2 Beta versions. carl123 Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Nice to know, could be useful for me on larger selections.
