One feature I really miss in Affinity Photo is the ability to change levels for each channel.

Currently the levels adjustment only allows to change the levels white/black/gamma globally for all channels. Most other image editors allow to switch to the red/green/blue channel and adjust each channel's level individually. This is already possible with the curves in Affinity Photo.

I would also like to see a usability improvement for the way one switches between these channels. Currently (in curves), I have to click onto the drop-down menu, choose a channel, and click again. It would be much easier and faster to just have four buttons on the top of the histogram, one for global curves adjustment, and one for each channel. And finally, if these could be activated by a shortcut, then it would be perfect.

For comparison: In PS there is a drop-down menu, but at least it can be switched quickly with Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 etc. In Photoline channels can be switched by buttons.

Anyway, most importantly, the levels adjustments should have the ability to edit each channel's level individually. The aforementioned usability improvements would be a great addition.

As for the drop down usability issue, I have already asked for that elsewhere as well, so I think the developers are aware of the problem. It's not just limited to Levels, there are other places in the UI that are affected as well, such as the Channel Mixer and the Selective Colour adjustment. Double-clicking sliders to reset them is also something I'd love to see.

I think the basic adjustments still need some work in general. Like its Photoshop counterpart, Levels and Curves are currently limited to Master + RGB and missing Alpha support (which Adobe has in After Effects, but not in Photoshop). And there are no output levels and no numeric input for the Gamma slider. There also isn't any clipping preview like when you hold down Option when dragging the slider in Photoshop. Pickers are also absent except for the very basic one in Curves (I'm still hoping for a white balance one in addition to Black/White/Gray point). I'm sure we'll see most of these things at some point, but I really really hope they will be in the 1.0 release since they are so essential.

The latest Beta has this functionality...

Yes, I realized that minutes after my post. I upgraded to the latest Beta just after posting.

In regards to functionality however, I stick to my suggestions posted here. And it seems that I am not the only one that would like to see these kind of improvements.

I agree with most points Peter made as well. However, I don't think Affinity Photo needs to copy Photoshop in every regard.

Of Peter's suggestions, these are the ones that would be on top of my list:

- numeric values for the gamma slider

- pickers for black/grey/white (in curves and levels)

- double-clicking for resetting sliders

Especially the resetting by double-clicking would be a great improvement. The fact that some sliders, like the gamma slider in levels, snap to the center point, is not exactly helpful in some cases. I often need just need tiny adjustments, and that's just not possible with the snapping feature. My work-around is to reduce the opacity, but that is far from ideal. Double-clicking for resetting as opposed to snapping sliders would be a great improvement.

@rui_mac

I'm not sure what you mean, but if you create a mask in Photo persona, you can alter what's in it using the Levels or Curves tools in the Layers menu.  Is it something other than that that is missing?

I mean being able to adjust the content of a mask (the greyscale values) as it was a simple greyscale image, just like I can, with Photoshop.
As is it now, when I create a mask and I try to manipulate the mask with Levels or Curves, what gets affects is the layer that is using the mask.

I create a little movie showing some stuff that is quite easy in Photoshop and impossible to do in Affinity Photo using masks:
