It appears that Accumulation in the Brush - Selection panel has the same effect as the Opacity slider on the Brush context toolbar.

Is this correct? If so, why are they named differently?

Also, selecting a brush with an Accumulation of less than 100% has no effect on the Opacity slider when it is selected. Can this be overridden so it does change the Opacity slider? The way it works now, once the brush is selected I can further decrease opacity via the context menu but cannot increase. Being new to brushes there may be a perfectly good reason for this behavior that I just don't understand so I'd appreciate a bit of education as needed :).

I'm trying to create a set of brushes to use in fine masking with varying opacity/flow so I can change these values without moving all the way to the context toolbar. This may be a waste of time, but I'm learning about creating brushes as I go...so not a total waste.

As opacity is a constant thing and will remain constant. The Accumulation feature was added to the Brush Dynamics to allow for greater control, this is essentially the same as opacity jitter control.

It sounds like accumulation is the same as opacity (the jitter control is also call accumulation). If this is the case, why use different terms?

The same with Jitter. I'd ignored the Dynamics tab because I don't want any jitter. It's a term that does not seem to reflect what the control actually does.

The Opacity setting is a constant and can only be changed via the brush context toolbar

For those users that want to control/vary the Accumulation (opacity) of a brush stroke by using pen pressure they can do that by selecting the pressure option in the Dynamics tab next to the Accumulation Jitter slider
