Lurien
I just downloaded the latest version of the Beta and it crashes (or in OSX-speak, quits unexpectedly) whenever I try to open it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no dice. Here's some system info: Late 2012 retina mac El Capitan 10.11.5 10 GB free Please let me know if there's anything else I need to provide. Thanks! fde101
You could try clearing user data. Immediately after clicking the icon to launch the beta hold down the control key until the window appears to ask what to clear. Then click "Clear" and see if it opens (note that this will cause preferences and some parts of the user interface to reset to defaults). If it continues to crash, the Serif team would probably appreciate the crash log: https://marinersoftware.deskpro.com/kb/articles/how-to-retrieve-crash-logs-in-os-x
Lurien
@fde101 Is there a special place to submit crash logs?
fde101
You can attach them to the post, or if you are not comfortable with making them available on a public forum, you could ask Serif to provide a dropbox link that you could upload them to so that only they can see them - if they think they will be useful they would most likely do that. I would expect that someone from Serif will probably comment on that eventually when they get around to reading this.
Staff Pauls Posted January 28, 2019 Staff Share Posted January 28, 2019 the crash report would be useful - please upload it to here Lurien
Lurien
@Pauls I finally managed to upload the .crash file. Can't wait to go back to making my labs with AP :D
Staff Pauls Posted February 4, 2019 Staff Share Posted February 4, 2019 Lurien - yours appears to be due to a font issue - maybe worth resetting your font cache.
Lurien
@Pauls For the program or the OS in general? AP always crashes before I can open Preferences. If so, what's the best way to clear the OS cache? Looking it up gives a lot of conflicting information and I don't want to lose my custom fonts
mac_heibu
The fastest ans simplest way to clear font caches in macOS: Shut down your machine. Restart the machine. When the start sound appears press the SHIFT key. Release the SHIFT key, when the LogIn window becomes visible. Wait, until your machine has started up completely. ATTENTION: This may take a considerable time, because your Mac starts into the „Safe Mode“. Starting into this mode, clears all system caches. When start up is finished, restart your machine, just as you always do. Now the caches are clean. You will lose no data at all. A_B_C
Or you can use a free tool like Onyx … it will allow you to specifically clear the font caches in several locations on your Mac … (German localisation)
Lurien
@mac_heibu @A_B_C Thank you both for your suggestions. I tried both of them, but it's still crashing instantly. I think I'm going to have to accept that AP may not work for me until the next beta build at the very least.

Lurien
@mac_heibu Still broken . It works in safe mode, but even with the cache cleared it crashes on startup once I restart. I have Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer already, and neither of them have this issue. @Pauls , was there anything else in the crash log that seemed off? Any custom fonts, for instance, that it's trying to load? I have a couple and tried disabling them to no effect. I've also uploaded the crash report on the new version, just in case. Updating OS to 10.11.6 did not help.
Staff Pauls Posted February 11, 2019 Staff Share Posted February 11, 2019 Hi Lurien, It's got to be a font issue would you able to zip your font files and place where the crash report is - I'll see if I can recreate the issue here.
Lurien
@Pauls Not sure how I'd be able to do that without causing some kind of system error. In any case, updating to Mojave fixed the issue, though I can't stay on this OS because it's disabled some of my other programs.
