HughB Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 How do you import Canon photo paper profiles to use as part of the print process? Quote
Staff Lee D Posted January 3, 2019 Staff Posted January 3, 2019 Hi HughB, They need to be added into the OS first, they then become available in other apps. In most cases right clicking the file should have an Install option, otherwise it will need to be installed with the other ICC profiles in the OS. For Windows it's: C:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\color For macOS: Library/ColorSync/Profiles in your home directory Quote
HughB Posted January 3, 2019 Author Posted January 3, 2019 Thanks for that, Lee. I had been looking at a video tutorial on printing and the recommended adding a soft proof adjustment layer to preview how the image would print on your chosen paper (and then make improvements if necessary}. The tutor used a drop down menu with a list of lots of paper types (Canon in my case) and mentioned that he had installed the drivers for these. I've looked in the location you suggested and there doesn't seem to be any Canon paper profiles. Is there somehere else I can look, do you know? Thanks for your help. Quote

Is there somehere else I can look, do you know? Let was telling you where they would be installed if you have them. It sounds like you need to find some to install. For that I would start with the Canon web site. You should at least find printer profiles that you could use in soft proofing. You might or might not find paper profiles to go with them. v_kyr Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 The ICC profiles for Canon papers are usually always installed together with a Canon printer driver. So if the OP has a printer driver for his Canon printer installed he also has the Canon related paper profiles. In that case they should already appear in the list of profiles available for soft proofing in Photo. R C-R Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I don't know about Windows but on Macs profiles can be installed in several other locations besides in a user's home directory, for example in the root Library folder's Printers or ColorSync subfolders. v_kyr Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 See Canon's own ICC profile instructions here, even for their lower consumer printers the paper profiles are installed together with the printer driver on all OS.
