How to use Flood fill tool in all layer edit function in affinity photo.

We created a random artwork and created another layer on top of that. Now if we wanted to use flood fill on one single part of that artwork then it automatically fills whole artwork.

Please guide how to use flood tool on one single portion of t hat artwork with flood fill tool.

Hi @Ravi Gupta,

That really depends on the layer you're working on and the Tolerance. Can you attach the .afphoto file?

The Flood Fill Tool works by replacing the colour of pixels on the current layer with the Fill colour set on the Colour panel. The pixels affected are determined by the following:

  • The colour of the pixel under the tool when you click on your page.
  • Whether the pixels are within the same selection area.
  • The pixels are directly connected to the clicked pixel or any others that are affected.
  • The tool's Tolerance settings (see below).

Settings

The following settings can be adjusted from the context toolbar:

  • Tolerance—sets the range of pixels affected (filled) when a pixel is clicked. For lower tolerance settings, pixels must be very close in value to the clicked pixel. For higher tolerance settings, pixel colour can vary widely from the clicked pixel.
  • Contiguous—if enabled, the flood will only be applied to affected pixels that are in the same area of the image. If disabled, the flood will be applied to all the pixels that match the tolerance setting regardless of where they are in the image.

Thanks,

Gabe.

Hello, Ravi Gupta,

I haven't used Photoshop at all for 5 years, and prior to that very infrequently. So I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do.

My understanding of Affinity photo is that a flood fill on one layer will work within any drawn lines. This would correspond to your Ps layer 0. If you want to fill other layers such as layer 0 and layer 2 in AP, each layer needs to be selected.

However, if you wish to flood layers that are separate from the bottom layer, they need to be merged before filling the areas.

Note the change in the layers panel.

On your background layer, use the Flood Select Tool to make a selection of the part you want to paint. (Make sure contiguous is set to on)

Make a new pixel layer, select the Flood Fill Tool, choose your colour and Flood Fill the selection.

Reselect the background layer and repeat as needed for other areas/colours.
