Terry_Martin Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 I have just purchased Affinity Photo after having problems loading the trial version, thinking this would solve the problem. Unfortunately the problem still exists. The programme will load up to the operating screen then crashes. I so much would like to use this editing programme and have never had a problem with the other editing programmes that I use. Can you help mesolve this problem? Quote
Staff Callum Posted November 14, 2018 Staff Posted November 14, 2018 Hi Terry_Martin, Welcome to the forums Which operating system are you using? If possible could you tell me the specs of your computer? I'm not sure exactly what you mean by will load up to the operating screen. Is this a problem with the apps installation or is the problem with the app launching once its installed? Thanks C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
Terry_Martin Posted November 14, 2018 Author Posted November 14, 2018 Hi Callum Computer - Intel (r)Core (TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.4 ghz installed memory 8 GB 64 bit operating system. What happens when I boot up Affinity Photo is the logo appears then it says loading font the grey screen then appears and I expect the rest to follow such as all the means to use the programme and then it crashes. I managed to load the trial version once and used it for the day but when I started the computer the next day I could not load Affinity it just crashed as i have explained. Quote
Alfred Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 If it crashes while the splash screen is telling you that it’s loading fonts, then one of your installed fonts is almost certainly causing the problem. How many fonts do you have installed? Are you using a font manager? Terry_Martin Posted November 14, 2018 Author Posted November 14, 2018 (edited) There are 377 fonts installed and I have recently installed a font manager but I really do not know what purpose it serves. It does not crash when loading the fonts but when the next screen is loaded. Which is the screen to let you use the programme. That screen loads for a couple of seconds and then crashes. Alfred Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 That isn’t a huge number, but it only needs one rogue font to cause trouble! Have you installed any new fonts recently? A font manager is particularly useful if you have thousands of fonts on your computer but you don’t want to put a strain on your system resources by having all of them permanently installed. Terry_Martin Posted November 14, 2018 Author Posted November 14, 2018 No I do not remember having ever installed a font. I'm a photographer and have no need to install fonts. If I have a rogue font how do I go about finding it? Quote
Ron P. Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 What Font Manager did you install? Also some graphic/illustration programs will install some fonts. There are some fonts that are for use when typing in other languages. In Windows 10 you can go to the Fonts folder (Control Panel>Fonts), and Hide all those that are not for your language, ie; English. It might be one of those is causing the problem with AP loading. Sorry I can't think of an easy way to weed out a specific rogue font. Quote Affinity Photo 2.5..; Affinity Designer 2.5..; Affinity Publisher 2.5..; Affinity2 Beta versions.
