MartinHH Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Hi, At this time I compare Affinity Publisher with InDesign. I would like to replace Indesign by Affinity publisher. And I've noticed one or two things I miss in Affinity Publisher. However I may not have understood or found it yet. 1. When I export PDFs to InDesign I have a lot of parameters or settings that need to be set. There are "Job Options" from different printers. In Affinity Publisher this is kept very simple. Have I just not found it yet, or are the parameters and settings simply unnecessary? 2. Is it possible to save individual colors in the color palette and name them so I can retrieve them later when I need them? 3. I would like to be able to save a compilation of image- or text-frames as a pattern in order to be able to retrieve the exact compilation of image-frames later. Is this possible? 4. I have created a large document in Affinity Publisher. 250 pages in the size 30x40cm. Images and text already exist on approx. 80 pages. Exporting as a PDF in a printable version takes an extremely long time, considerably longer than in InDesign. Is there a reason for this? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks a lot for now, best regards Martin
Chris_K Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Hi MartinHH 1. There are more options for PDF export if you click the more button on the export dialog. This covers most of the relevant options for PDF. We feel that most options beyond this are not commonly used enough 2. You can save colours to the palette on the swatches panel from either your currently selected colour or the colour of a selected object. you can make palettes that are just linked to a document, linked to the app or to the system. You can also export the palettes to import onto other machines 3. I'm not sure exactly what you are meaning by this but we have an assets panel which you can save elements or groups of elements which you can then simply drag out into a new document and they retain the appearance they were saved with. Is this what you may be after? 4. It's difficult to say what is happening here without the file. It could be taking it's time with things such as rasterising images however I can only guess at this at this stage Thanks Serif Europe Ltd - Check the latest news at www.affinity.serif.com
MartinHH Posted November 16, 2018 Author Posted November 16, 2018 Hi Chris, thanks a lot! 1. I'm crushed! Sorry, I didn't see that button. 2. Great! Found that but I have to look at it, it's not so easy. 3. I'd like to store Page Layouts, f.e. 4 rectangles, 180x135px, to have it always the same. And I'd like to store several of these templates, possibly named by myself. In addition it would be great to have templates for text- or picture frames in the style of "text styles". With this it would be possible to manage and centrally change properties like frame color and strength, effects etc. for groups of frames. Just the same as with Text Styles. Is that possible? Thanks and best regards Martin

I would suggest making a new Category "My Assets" and a subcategory "Page Layouts" and then select your group and add to your subcategory "Page Layouts" by choosing add from selection. Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
MartinHH Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 @Old Bruce: Thanks a lot! That's exactly what I'm looking for.
