wscrcom
Hey I am trying to make a small icon 24x24. I have a rectangle, 24x24 and an icon that sits on the rectangle, 21x21 I center the icon in the rectangle, then group the objects and Affinity changes the size of the grouped objects to 29.6x29.6 I so not understand why it does this and its annoying the shit out of me. Can someone help out and just explain WTF is going on? Thanks so much https://sales-wscr-com.tinytake.com/sf/Mjk5ODc4NF84OTkwNzI2
walt.farrell
You've rotated that Curves layer 45 degrees, and I believe that means that it's not the Width and Height that matter but the diagonal. The diagonal of a 21x21 square is 29.69. You can see that when you just have that object selected. wscrcom
Oh ok! That makes sense! How do I fix it? What do I need to do to the rotated curve to make it not do that?
walt.farrell
Sorry, no idea other than the obvious "draw it in the proper orientation initially, so you don't have to rotate it". I'm sure someone else will have a better answer. Guest
Hello wscrcom, You can redo the central curve: draw the ring and then the central bar. Orient the center bar at the right angle (you can draw it horizontally and then tilt it) and position it before doing "Add", so you won't have to rotate the curve and the size of the set will be correct. I'm sure someone else will have a better answer. During the night I came up with another solution that I think works: Using the Rectangle Tool, draw a square on top of the curves layer exactly matching it in size. Then select the square and the curve layer and use the geometry operation Intersect. That will give you a new layer with a bounding box in the proper orientation. walt.farrell
Thanks, @reglico. Learned something new, and I think that should also solve both of @wscrcom's issues simply. Guest
@walt.farrell, I had initially considered this option but as it was a circle, I thought there would be no reset (in size, I hadn't thought about rotation) and I hadn't tested it. Indeed, this seems to be the fastest solution to the problem of @wscrcom.
