mateuspollonio Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Hello, is it possible to show guides outside the canvas area? because when I drag them outside, they vanish Quote
R C-R Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 They vanish, but they are still there, & if 'Snap to guides' is enabled in the Snapping Manager, items will snap to them. Opening the Guides Manager from the View menu will show their locations, as in this example for a pair of guides above & to the left of the canvas: Guides.afdesign Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.5.7 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
MikeW Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Yeah, still there. So only half useless because they cannot be seen. I don't know if this is by design or a limitation. Either way I hope they make an appearance when we can see bleed guides too. Quote
hOSHI Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Since it is possible to have shapes and layer parts outside of the canvas it should be possible to have guides there, not being able to put them where I need them because it is "forbidden" is just annoying ... Quote

I'm curious what you plan to do with the items that are outside the Artboards, that would require control over exactly where they're located? They can't be exported, can they? And couldn't you simply create another Artboard to put them on? hOSHI Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Hey, I currently have the situation where I have a couple of layers with layer effects that need to have a similar look and feel. They will be exported separately but used together (like puzzle pieces). I tried to have a gradient layer effect. Only problem: The center shifts because the shapes that I used to create the layers with end on different positions in empty space. The need to be partly in empty space because otherwise the inner shadow would be inside the canvas (which is what I do not want). If all the shapes would end at the same coordinates in empty space it would be easy to control the gradients center, without a guide - it's just too complicated. Let's just say: I encountered a lot of scenarios where having control even outside of the canvas would make sense. especially for objects that are just partly outside. walt.farrell 1 Quote
