codelearner Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 What are the ways to edit or repair old and damaged Black and White Photos? Where to start? Quote
Alfred Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Depending on the image you may get reasonable results with the Inpainting Brush Tool, but in most cases you’ll probably need to resort to using the Clone Stamp Tool with a small, soft brush tip (at least for touching up, if not for the bulk of the work). codelearner 1 Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.5.1 (iPad 7th gen)
John Rostron Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 If the damage includes colour staining, then it is worth looking at the various channels to see if one shows less stain, and then using that one. codelearner 1 Quote Windows 11, Affinity Photo 2.4.2 Designer 2.4.2 and Publisher 2.4.2 (mainly Photo). Try the Clarity filter, or (for more control) the Unsharp Mask filter. codelearner and Polygonius 2 Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.5.1 (iPad 7th gen)

Polygonius Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Thank you Alfred. Unsharp mask seems to be a walkable path. The key is, to use it very subtle, otherwise it does the opposite on "small (pixellike) pictures" with just few information.
