Sharkey Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 A quick question. I have a jpg of a dog. I want to put a toy in front of the dogs nose. Yhe toy image is a png from the web and far too large. What is the workflow to achieve this. ? The result must be of a quality to be posted online again - full size on webpage. Normal jpeg posts are 1920 ppi longest side at about 500kb.. thank you Quote MacPro (late 2013), 24Gb Ram, D300GPU, Eizo 24",1TB Samsung 850 Archive, 2x2Tb Time Machine,X-t2 plus 50-140mm & 18-55mm. toltec Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Just go File > Place, find the PNG, click Open and drag the place pointer to size it. Here we have a deer with a suitable cuddly toy Don't worry about anything else. Photo will sort it out for you when you export a JPEG for the web. Well, assuming the original JPEG is a suitable size and resolution. p.s. It will NOT be 1920 ppi. 1920 pixels maybe, but not 1920 ppi. Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

Normal jpeg posts are 1920 ppi longest side at about 500kb.. I don't know what you mean by normal here but all that matters for web page jpegs are the pixel dimensions (total pixels), compression/quality setting, & file size. More pixels & higher quality/less compression result in larger file sizes that take longer to load. Fewer pixels & lower quality/more compression result in smaller files that take less time to load. Display size on the web page (screen pixels & linear dimensions) is dependent on the device, browser, & user settings used to display it. You cannot control that. Sharkey Posted November 22, 2017 Author Posted November 22, 2017 Thank you 'toltec'. RC-R. I do really appreciate that you know what you are writing about, I really do. BUT - I do not understand a word of it - sorry. Only question now is how do I blend the toy into the original image? Things like "normal" or "full sized" or DPI/ppi for jpeg images displayed on web pages do not mean much because different browsers, different devices (small screen laptops, smart phones, desktop computers with large screen monitors, etc.), & different user settings will display them at different sizes. IOW, what you see on your screen is not necessarily the same as what someone else will see when viewing the same web page. There is nothing you can do about that. By blend, do you mean remove the background from behind the lion ? I would suggest following the techniques in this video Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

Remove background, for example Filters\Colours\EraseWhitePaper, or Selection Brush Tool + Refine Selection, etc. Select All (Ctrl+A), and Copy to clipboard (Ctrl+C). Load image with dog. Paste toy from clipboard (Ctrl+V). Move Tool (V), and change her position, resize or rotate. If you need Crop and Resize image. Export image (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S) to jpg.
