Hi,

A few issues when working with text styles.

1) Clicking style in panel to edit automatically removes settings. Text formatting is changed on screen when opening style properties. For example bold weight applied through paragraph style. Double-clicking in the styles panel reverts the text to regular and in the style properties it says "no change". (Maybe it picks up formatting from [no style] cause it's 'based' on that)

2) I can not apply the setting "show in both panels". Check it in properties, press OK. Nothing happens. Open properties, checkbox is unchecked.

3) Bug or question. There's a plus sign behind a character style to indicate a style override. But I can't see what is the override and how to remove it.

Hi Biscuit,

I can reproduce Issues 1 & 2, however I'm not entirely sure what you mean by Issue 3? Could you post a screenshot or file showing the issue.

Issue 1 - On Mac double clicking the style doesn't 'reapply' it removing the edits you've made. I will get that reported. However it is also by design that any changes you've made will not appear in the 'Edit Text Style' dialog. If you want to update a text style to match a selected piece of text you can click the  'Update Paragraph/Character Style' buttons at the bottom middle of the Text Styles Panel. Alternatively you can create a new style based on that selected piece of text by clicking the 'Create Paragraph/Character Style' buttons at the bottom left of the Text Styles Panel.

Issue 2 - I'll get this reported.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply Sean,

Regarding 'Issue 3' - (See image) The selected black caps are a character style on top of the pink paragraph style. There's a plus sign behind the character style, but no added formatting. After 'Update character style' with this selection, the plus switches to the paragraph style; no visible change in formatting. It seems as if one style overrides the other resulting in a plus sign. But character styles are designed to override paragraph styles.

Related question: Is there a 'Remove text style override' button? I've tried setting 'no style' and then apply the style again, but that doesn't work.

The text context bar shows only a + because there isn't much room for more. If you look in the Text Styles studio tab, at the top is a line which shows the current formatting. This will probably look like "quote + body + ..." (or whatever your style names are). If you click the arrow to the left of this control, the control expands and the "..." should be replaced by a fuller textual description of what local formatting is overriding the styles. This can be quite helpful in understanding where text formatting is coming from.

To the right of the control is a button that looks like a T in a circle; clicking that should reapply the styles and so remove the overrides. Menu option Text > Reapply Text Styles should have the same effect.

Aha, thanks. Didn't save with history, so I can't track back what happened earlier, but if it happens again I'll be able to figure it out.

I did notice that the 'reset formatting' button always resets the entire paragraph including kerning even if only a part of the paragraph is selected. If that's by design it seems a bit weird that the button only can be used when a part with additional formatting is selected.
