When I place graphics in Affinity Publisher and save and close the file portions of the placed graphic disappear. I have to replace the graphic in order for it to display properly. This happens frequently and whether the file is place a master page or loose within the pages of the document. The logo in the screen shots below is an Illustrator(.AI) file.

Hi @Steve Speer and welcome to the forums,

Not immediately without seeing the file, but it looks as though the picture frame the logo is contained in may (or may not) be set as Stretch to Fit, which you can check by clicking the Properties button at the top left of the context toolbar. You likely want to change it to Scale to Max Fit, though I don't think that is the cause of the .ai file vanishing. If it is already set as Scale to Max Fit then something else seems to be causing the logo to distort but I'm unsure why part of it disappears...

Can you upload the .ai file or any other files where you see this happening so we can take a look...

HI @Steve Speer Is the .AI file linked or embedded within your document?

When it does occur if you zoom in/out to force the canvas to redraw does it resolve the issue?

The imported files are linked . . . and changing the properties properties makes no difference. This has happened on multiple files for me and is a deal breaker in using this software.

Hi @Steve Speer,

Thanks for confirming…

Can you upload the .ai file or any other files where you see this happening so we can take a look... or even better a sample Publisher file along with the Linked Illustrator file so we can see what is going on…

I can recreate that issue in the current released version but not in the current beta. So, it may have been fixed already

You could try the beta to confirm or wait until it comes out of beta and then just upgrade your current version

The beta is in its final testing phase so it should not be too long until it is released

Hi @Steve Speer,

Many thanks for the files...

For me, the .ai file doesn't load correctly in the Retail version 2.5.7 or the current Beta 2.6.0.3078.

If you look at the context toolbar you'll see to the right of the file dimensions that the Page Box information hasn't loaded so you see Spread without the option to specify a page from the dropdown and the option to select Page Box information is missing...

The top is how the file appears | The Bottom is how it is supposed to appear

When saving from Illustrator as an AI file, you need to ensure that Create PDF Compatible File is ticked, as this is the only data Affinity apps can load from the AI file. Whether that's the issue here I'm unsure...

Having said that, the file opens in Designer without issue so if you export it as an SVG or PDF file and then Replace the .ai version with the SVG or PDF version that should hopefully rectify the issue...

I have tried importing the same graphic as and Affinity Designer file, PDF and still have the same issues. This is so frustrating. Is there a 'preferences' file that I can delete and refresh? I'm wondering if it might be corrupt.

I ran a quick test earlier this morning, opening the .ai file in Designer, exporting it as an SVG and then replacing all instances of the .ai file using Resource Manager which appeared to work when closing and re-opening the Publisher document but I didn't test it extensively... The .ai file itself seems to be the problem...

You could run a factory reset of Publisher though I'm pretty sure it won't resolve the issue... If you do decide to run one you can do so by launching Publisher while holding the Ctrl Key until you see the Clear User Data screen, leave the first three options selected, click the Clear button and let Publisher finish launching...

Note: doing so will reset any custom UI and tool settings back to their factory defaults...

Even creating a new document using Add Pages from file makes no difference (for me at least) to how the .ai file is displayed...

Try replacing the logo as described above with an SVG version and let us know if you still see the same issue...

The SVG import seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the help! I was seeing this as being a deal breaker in my switch from InDesign and am so glad to have sorted this out.

That's really good to hear, I'm glad that seems to have worked and fixed the issue... Hopefully, moving forward with your 4 x 5 Film Folio project you'll not experience any other issues...
